Literally leaving a review within 30mins of eating our first Kaani Kaana takeaway as a nice New Year’s Eve treat.
There’s not a single thing I could fault.. Apart from the fact that the portions are so generous that we couldn’t eat it all, but at least we have seconds for tomorrow!
We ordered the okra fries, heritage green chicken dish, aloo ghost bhuna lamb dish, bombay aloo, peshwari naan, & a pilau rice.
Every dish is rich in flavour, not in the slightest bit greasy, & leaves a very pleasant after taste.
I literally can’t wait to try more of the menu!
Krishna on recep was brilliant, most helpful, & even left a message as soon as our food was ready for collection.
You can tell the staff are hand picked, & very hot on their customer service, which is lovely to experience!
Extremely good value for money, & by paying that bit more it really shows in the quality of the food!
Thank you for such a fantastic meal & we look forward to ordering from Kaani Kaana again☺️
Their Kacchi Biriyani was absolutely awesome.
The house-made chutney is one of my all-time favourites, always bursting with flavour.
A special thanks to the kind lady who offered us masala chai. What a lovely cup of chai
Highly recommended

Online order was easy, and we got 10% off first order. Arrived at expected time and the delivery driver looked smart. The packaging looks nice. Unfortunately, these were the only positives.
Everything looked great to the eye so we dished it up and got stuck in.
Meat Mixed Platter: Everything was quite dry, no evidence of any marinade. The lamb was chewy
Chicken tikka masala: The curry was very nice, the chicken was dry
Panner Tikka: tasteless
Peshwari and Cheese Naan: Fine, couldn’t taste any cheese. Had better from Sainsbury’s
We got through half of it before agreeing it was the worst curry we’d had, we cook better at home, and we felt silly for spending £50 on it.
We gave this feedback to the team. We felt this was likely a one-off and didn’t intend to write a review, but the customer service was so bad I now feel I must.
They took no accountability. They explained how their equipment made it impossible for meat to be dry. They suggested the quality of their meat meant it must be that we just aren’t used to that quality.
They suggested that before persisting through half the meal we should have used out powers of foresight to sense the dryness. Called them to collect and investigate. Maybe receive a meal by 10PM.
They originally offered a £10 refund. Then increased to £15 after my response to their accusation we were basically lying.
Mine isn’t the only review saying they received a dry meal.
In summary. We paid £35 to eat half an awful meal.
Collecting the food was an experience in itself, so professional, welcoming and rather boujee! The ladies were so helpful and friendly. The food was top tier, as 4 vegans, but with one meat eater we just ordered 100% vegan. So many options, we all enjoyed thoroughly. I’ll definitely be requested everything we come to visit my mother in law now!!
EDIT: Since they’re trying to pull the “we have no record of an order under your name” excuse, here’s a photo of the bag it was delivered in with today’s date on it. I’m not really interested in a “resolution”, I just want to make it clear to anyone else reading that this is a real review since they appear to be trying to cast doubt.
From the moment you step inside, the design of the venue catches your eye. It is superb. Welcoming, relaxing and quietly elegant, it feels far removed from the typical takeaway setting. There is a calm, polished atmosphere that makes you want to linger rather than simply collect your food and dash.
The staff are equally impressive. Engaging, helpful and genuinely friendly, they are an absolute delight to talk with. There is warmth in the service that feels natural rather than rehearsed, and it makes all the difference.
As for the food, it was excellent. Truly delicious and refreshingly different from a standard Indian takeaway. I ordered the Lamb Biriani along with a spinach paneer aloo, and the flavours were intense in the very best way. Each mouthful was a taste sensation. Everything was fresh and beautifully seasoned, and the lamb was delightfully moist and wonderfully flavoursome.
I highly recommend this lovely takeaway. It is clear that care and craft go into both the cooking and the overall experience. They also offer delivery, which is a welcome bonus.
I will certainly be buying from them again the next time I am in Chelmsford.
