La Trainera is one of Madrid’s classic seafood institutions. The atmosphere is traditional and elegant, with a level of service that reflects decades of experience. Staff are professional, attentive, and know the menu inside out.

The seafood is the real highlight: ultra-fresh, simple, and prepared with the kind of precision only a long-standing marisquería can deliver. The salpicón, cigalas, langostinos, merluza and the grilled fish are consistently excellent, always cooked just right and served without unnecessary embellishments. Portions are generous and the quality is top-tier.

Prices are on the higher side, but they match the product and the overall experience. If you’re looking for classic Madrid seafood done exceptionally well, La Trainera remains a reliable reference

Very delicious high quality food but expect several extras and courses. Very busy place and we were handed menus and asked to order within minutes. To be fair, we didn’t have reservations and were not good in Spanish. We’re charged a lot for bread and water (even more than we ordered) and several different servers passed by the table (was confusing). The bill had 4o-45 euros added so we just left them a good tip
And basically paid a hefty price for basic salads, breads and a nice fish. Can’t complain about the quality of food or service but was a fast quick expensive meal. Three times expensive than any other meal we had all week. Nice people but 300 euros and never got my ice cream (LOL). Worth a shot definitely but expect to pay above average

You can’t do anything wrong here. Very traditional Madrid restaurant. Great seafood. Try to get a table in the front room. Acoustic in backroom and atmosphere not very nice… else super.

Incredible sole meunière. Great salpicón.
I eat at Trainera couple of times a year, their quality is always at the top and attention makes you feel right at home.

Great wine. Salty fish. Cold potatoes (even after having them replaced) mediocre salad and stale bread. And yet they have a photo of the dining in the restaurant. So who am I to complain?

A top-quality seafood restaurant in Madrid —a top seafood city despite its inland, mountain location— with service to match its menu choices, located in the chic Barrio Salamanca.

This place is the definition of “for locals only”. If you’re not someone the maitre d’ will shake hands with to welcome you, don’t bother coming. This place is patronised mostly by old money types who’ve come here for years and years.

As a solo diner I was seated at the very back at a tiny table in front of the kitchen door – not an agreeable location with the bustling service coming in and out of the kitchen right by me. Service was impersonal and rushed.

The food itself: I ordered white asparagus (in season); very meh. I also ordered 2 king prawns, large and delicious – and €66 for both. They were good but not worth that much.

We visited “La Trainera” (2 people). We were received by the manager (polite and efficient). We had a very good chat with the guy in charge of the fresh seafood, amazing guy!

Food: 5. The quality is simply amazing. Not just fresh, but the preparation is simple yet with a lot of natural flavour.

Service: 4. The waiters have a lot of experience and they will help you order, as they know that ordering here is not simple if you have no knowledge about seafood.

Place: 4. Clean, not noisy and well lighted.

Below some photographs of what we ordered: Pulpo a la gallega. Gambas. Merluza.
