This was my second time having dinner in this place in less than a week. Both times were awesome. All photos included.
The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and attentive. I am particularly fond or the alligator: The first time I had the pick 2. My choices were shrimp and alligator with rice and coleslaw. This time I had the smoked sausage dinner over sauerkraut and a side of jalapeño honey cornbread along with the Alligator VooDoo appetizer. All absolutely delicious.
They also have a great bar. This time around I had two Rum Runners rather than just the one the first time.
I highly recommend it. If you like bigger crowds, I was here on a weekend the first time; a lot more activity than on Wednesday night. I’ll be back on a weekend soon.

2 miles off of I 94 in the city of Belleville south of the expressway is the ultimate dining excursion for the Detroit area family Bayou Grill. Our knowledgeable waitress, McKenna or Mac if she prefers to be called was exceptional in her assisting us with her choices for the first meal that we will experience in the Louisiana style Cajun dining experience. Joe, the kitchen manager manager was about to prepare for us one of the best tasting meals we’ve had Throughout the Detroit area mind you I love all the places that I visit but this one was just a step above. We started out with the alligator bit and this was the unbelievable highlight of our meal loving to try unusual food. I took my fork, poked one of the alligator bits and dipped it in their special sauce, and popped it in my mouth, as I carefully chewed it, I said back and savored the delicious flavor of this tidbit. There was no flavor that would be unusual or strange or so far out that I could not finish this dish. In fact, it was so good that my partner and I enjoyed every tidbit as we savor the flavor. The outside crust and the sauce was just a perfect match for our first time ever eating alligator. I strongly recommend this particular plate, haven’t gone to the 1996 Olympics a New Orleans café set up free a free gumbo demonstration for people walking around the Olympic area and I got my first gumbo. Five samples later I was in love with gumbo not thinking that when I went to Belleville, if the Bayou Grill that their gumbo would be as delicious and fulfilling as I could imagine, and my taste buds were absolutely thrilled, I ordered the baked seafood which was a sampling of everything that they offer from shrimp to scallions to catfish to salmon in a savory sauce, and it was just mouthwatering. My addiction to tater tots was filled with the ample proportion that they gave me as a side dish with the catch-up I was in tater tot heaven. my partner had the grilled catfish platter and he loved it as we left we both marveled at the deliciousness of the cuisine at this butter. Joe was outback the kitchen manager who cooked meal and I was able to personally thank him for a fantastic meal I went as far as to buy a T-shirt that I will proudly wear with the alligator on it, especially if people ask if I really did eat alligator and I could say proudly yes I did, and I loved it, give this place of try it is so worth it. Please look at my photographs and I think you will definitely enjoy this. I wouldn’t order everything because it was a high bill for us to pay but we didn’t mind but I think if you do a couple dishes you want to come back and try others which we’re going to do and come back from war this was a treat and well worth the trip.

The atmosphere was very welcoming the young lady who provided service for us was amazing and the food was really delicious we absolutely loved the fried crawfish and alligator and catfish on the platter it was all amazing. We were sad they ran out of oysters though. Subsequently they ran out of other items but it had no influence on our visit.

My family and I went to dine there. We didn’t enjoy the food. The staff was very polite and friendly and that was the best thing about this place. Our food was not hot; it was luke warm. I had the ribs and shrimp and the ribs tasted boiled and had some dark residue on the end. The shrimp was okay. I won’t go back, but I heard eating outside in the summer is really nice.

Reading other reviews, looks like they have staffing issues. I went on a weeknight, Very few guests. I was seated quickly, delivered my beverage fast, and took my order as expected. I just ordered a dinner salad and some gator bits, followed by carrot cake. Nothing special but not bad. Prices seem high for what I ordered but these days, everything is priced high. Average place.

Ok so first off I really love this place. I had a dear friend come to town from out of state, I have been bragging about this place for so long she wanted to go. So Friday we went about 2pm give or take 20 minutes. We got there and was seated quickly which was nice, we had to wait for 15 minutes to just get drinks, which I thought was kind of strange, we had never waited that long before. I’d say there was about 10 to 15 table tops that were full. We asked to sit by the window and we did I also had my 80 year old mother with me n my wife. After waiting so long a young man came to our table and apologized for the wait and said he had just walk through the door. He was very nice and took our order, to start we had the bid platter with catfish and Pearl’s, shrimp n buffalo chicken, zucchini and gator. That came out awesome. We also ordered the fried scallops and the stuffed mushrooms and oyster Rockefeller. He then put in our order for our meals. My mother had the fried jumbo shrimp. My friend had the catfish, my wife had the spicy chicken alfredo and I had the blackened catfish tacos. To start with the shrimp was way to over cooked as well as the catfish. The chicken was dry and my tacos had no blacking on them and were tasteless. I did not say anything to the young man due to the fact that I have returned food before at other restaurants and had gotten back food that looked worse. Not saying that it would have happened there but was very disappointed in the food we received. We have been there before but it was always at night and had talked to the owners wife when she came around to our table, might I say she is a very nice woman. I think the this needs to get looked into as to why the food is not good when the owner is there. After spending 140.00 on food that my mom could not eat n all of it being way to over done we steal left the waiter a 35.00 tip because it was not he’s fault. I think that our meals should be replaced and only the meals. I will think twice about bragging on the bayou grill in the future. I hope this reaches the owner and they look in to this issue. With this being the only place like it around I’m sad that this had to happen. I packed up the food but left the chicken behind. Here are a few pictures of what it looked like. I’m sorry I did not say something now to the waiter.

Overall not as good as I’d hoped for.
It was on a Tuesday afternoon around 1:00 I walked into Bayou Grill. I had been here before but wanted to try another item. I had my mind set on the Muffuletta Sandwich.
I was shown to a booth and ordered a Sweet Iced tea. The tea was cold and just the right amount of sweetness. The pitcher mug was cool too. I looked over the menu but I already knew what my choice was.
The Service was quick only a few minutes between ordering and the foods arrival.
The first thing I noticed is that it was not on authentic round Italian bread. The bread was good. Crusty on the outside and tender on the inside but shaped like most Italian bread you will find in any store. The next thing I noticed was the lack of Olive salad. I had to look hard to find a small thin layer on the bottom of my sandwich. It was not very flavorful. It lacked the garlic & oregano. I could see a few of the items but they were diced up so finely that they were almost a paste. Very few olives in the “Olive Salad”.
The sandwich was nicely toasted which I didn’t mind and the cheeses and meats were plentiful.
The fries were good as my side option but I have to say I was very disappointed in the Muffuletta. Everything else I have had here in the past has been high on my list but this time they missed the mark. I have made better Olive Salad at home & I am in no way a chef.
The visit had it’s redeeming values. Great fries and terrific Sweet Tea. Service was average. I saw my waitress a few times in passing and she did check on me regularly.
Atmosphere
Rather dark on the inside but nicely decorated with Mardi Gras items. Plenty of purple green and
yellow colors. I did like the alligator hanging above the seating area and the Artwork.
Noise Level
Good. Normal talking level. Sports on TV’s in the background
Meal
Bourbon Street Muffuletta with fries $8.99. Sweet Tea $ 2.79 Total $12.49 tax included.
Wheelchair Access
The restaurant is at street level, Double doors no barriers.
My Rating: 1 Star
Ratings range from zero to four stars. Zero is poor, One star, good. Two stars, very good. Three stars, excellent. Four stars, extraordinary (almost impossible to achieve)

Bayou Grill has pretty delicious food and a unique combination of events and specials.
They are the one of the only cajun focused restaurants in the area and the only one worth going in at least a 10 mile radius.
Dinner is good, but I usually come for brunch for a great variety at a decent price. Havent hd brunch since the pandemic however.
Had dinner here last visit and everyone was happy with their food.

Loved the food….absolutely loved it for this area. The taste is as close to southern as you can get. Love the decor and the staff was friendly and warming. Must stop if you are around and hungry for sea food or just straight up southern comfort food.

I hadn’t eaten here for a few years, and I was not aware that this restaurant has new owners. I ordered catfish, slaw, and dirty rice. The dinners come with only one side, so I paid extra for the slaw. The catfish and slaw were good. The dirty rice was bland and had no seasonings. This restaurant is not the same. I must say, the people working there were extremely nice and went above and beyond. I just hope they can bring the Bayou back to how it used to be.
