So we decided to stop here for the 5 dollar lunch for the first time, and sadly werent too impressed. I think the food quality could be much better, the pork was dry and not as smoky flavored as anticipated. The beans were okay and the pulled pork sandwich tastes bland and dry.

Trying my girlfriends pulled pork taco it was actually pretty good. So there’s mixed feelings about this place but overall, but given time I’d be willing to see if they improve because I could use a good bbq spot to go too.

Side note. The hostess was friendly and very helpful.

I’m amazed at the good reviews. Not NW fresh or southern comfort.
I ordered 2 rib dinners and a chicken breast dinner for my son. The coleslaw was really good but the ribs were dry, really over cooked. The chicken was worst. We received three little containers 1 oz containers of sauce. It had a weird after taste… I’m from NC so maybe I might be a little picky but it’s not good at all. The Mac n cheese is from a box. Not homemade, they might doctor it up a little but the noodles have that ‘box’ taste with a thin sauce. Definitely the mixed powder with milk variety. The cornbread, sweet baby Jesus…box!!! Tasted like a dried cake but without all the sugar. I ended up tossing most of it. $48 which is high for what you get but reasonable if the quality was better.

Very tasty baby back ribs and cole slaw! Friendly service and atmosphere. Would like warm cornbread, but oh well. Definitely several cuts above other BBQ places in the area in terms of flavor and tenderness. Ribs had a ton of meat on them.

I love good BBQ. Who doesn’t? So I decided to try some staple BBQ items from Rib Ticklers in Gig Harbor.
I ordered a half rack of ribs and a pound of Brisket. I figured that if this outfit knew BBQ these two items would set the standard for the rest of what they have to offer.
The ribs were as good as you could do at home in the oven with some dry rub and add sauce after they are done. The meat was cooked good and it came off the bone properly. But the ribs lacked any flavor of wood smoke at all. They were pretty much flavor less, really disappointing. The BBQ sauce was basically the same, not really tasty at all. A good bottle of BBQ sauce from your Safeway store of your liking would be much better. Really surprised about this.
Then I went to the pile of Brisket to tackle. It was cooked properly and tender, but again there was no flavor of the so called hickory that they claim they smoke with. There was however the signature red smoke ring around the perimeter of the slices but again no smoke bbq flavor at all, nothing!
The sauce again just gave the meat a covered up cheap taste and feeling. I tried the spicy sauce they serve, but I just don’t know how any other of their sauces would be much better. The rub they put on the brisket was pretty much the only flavor that you can try to relate to it being BBQ.
After seeing the operation, it was obvious that they don’t really smoke the meat in a smoker at all. They use the commercial metal counter top box for cooking their meats. The real meat smoker is sitting out at the curb with a wet piece of wood next to it to make you think that what they have inside had actually been smoked on a real smoker.
I have been to dozens of BBQ places from Florida, Georgia, Texas, Montana etc. and here like the Cave Man for example. Lesson be learned, if you walk into a BBQ joint and don’t smell the definite give away of wood smoke, hickory, mesquite or other then the meats they serve are not wood smoked. Look for a smoker that is smoking before a BBQ joint claims to have real BBQ. Wont go back, really disappointing to say the least. Go try it for yourself though.

We had a very nice, tasty meal today. Arriving at approx 2:30pm to find easy parking. Seated immediately, provided water without asking, out order arrived promptly, and was deliciously filling. The wait staff helpful and polite. We will be back.

Afew days later we did return. This time to try their 5 dollar menu that begins at 11:30am until 4pm. It was great, tasty, and a very good bargain for what is offered.

Overall: meh. Had pulled pork and tri tip. Both were ok but dry. Mashed potatoes and beans were pretty flavorless. The service was incredibly slow despite it being petty empty, and the (admittedly new) waitress had no idea about the menu or even how to work the register. No real desire to come back. Disappointed.

I stopped for a to go order last night, having never heard of this place until driving by their Gig Harbor sign a week ago. Was informed right away they had no mashed potatoes, mac & cheese or cornbread. I also was told it was a “weird day”, but I did not ask why. So I ordered the 2 ribs and 1/4 lb of tri tip. A toasted half hamburger bun replaced the cornbread. I watched a family leave after learning what menu items were not available. I was flat out disappointed with the food. However, I intend to try again to see if this poor showing was the result of that weird day, or this is not where I need to spend my eating out dollars.

Still new at the sit down environment but mannn the food is good! I’m sure they’ll have the kinks worked out soon enough. Try the chicken salad wrap! Coleslaw, potato salad & chicken. Add whatever yummy sauce you want. We will be back for sure.

Started with getting BBQ From Dennis when he was just in the back of the gas station. The new location is in prime spot, great food, family friendly, and even better service. Oh yeah, they have beer and wine too. Ask for the SPECIAL BBQ sauce tasting!!!!!

I built government subsidized housing in 23 western and southeastern states and I know the best Scandinavian bakeries and BBQ joints and restaurants in those states. For barbecue there is no comparison to Rib Ticklers, meats, sauces and method of cooking. Dennis has catered events for me for 30 years and is a charmer!
