Reviews
I recently purchased food from Sardi’s in Oxon Hill and unfortunately found a small piece of plastic in my rice. I initially tried to email the store manager, Alejandro, but realized I had the wrong email address. Since I was already in the area the other day (I had actually stopped next door at Chipotle), I decided to swing by as a courtesy to make him aware. My mother owns a restaurant, so I know how important it is for owners and managers to be informed when something like that happens.
When I came in, he examined the photo—which I completely understand—but then began questioning why the wrapper in the photo had “Tropical Café” on it. I had just moved back from Georgia and genuinely didn’t even realize that detail at first. I explained from the beginning that I was simply bringing this to his attention as a courtesy and wasn’t asking for anything. However, the interaction quickly became uncomfortable and felt more like I was being interrogated than heard.
Once I reiterated that I was just stopping by to inform him and wasn’t looking for compensation, the tone shifted and he offered me a drink. By that point, though, I felt too uncomfortable to accept anything.
What made this especially disappointing is that this used to be a place I had really fond memories of before I moved away. I was actually excited to come back and support again. Unfortunately, after this experience, I’m not sure I even feel comfortable visiting any of the locations.
This could have simply been a “Thank you, we appreciate you letting us know,” and kept moving. Instead, it left me feeling as though I was being treated like I had done something wrong.
Just sharing so others are aware—not necessarily about the food itself, but about how concerns may be handled. I truly believe customer feedback should be welcomed, especially when someone is coming in good faith.
I’ll start with the pros: The food is seasoned well and staff are friendly. The rice and beans were delicious. The plantains were good. The chicken skewers were good. The brussel sprouts and carrots are always a hit!
The cons: Although the shrimp was seasoned well, it was overcooked. I can’t stand overcooked shrimp. Some of the plantains were hard, needing to be cooked longer. Let’s get into the biggest disappointment, the freaking lamb chop! The lamb chop was so tiny I barely saw it. The staff was kind enough to make us another one at no extra charge, but even that was tiny. On top of it being another tiny lamb chop, I watched as they allowed the chop to burn, as no one was watching the single lonesome chop on the grill. I had to remind staff that it was on the grill. Someone finally pulled it off and tried to serve it to me, but as expected, it was burnt. They were going to make another one, but the damage was already done. Their carelessness left a sour taste in our mouths (my love and I). We probably won’t return. I would not recommend the lamb chop. The single one I had was okay, but it was definitely not worthy of being an option in the three meat combo. They even sell the chops as a separate meal. But you’ll be disappointed with the size. Especially with paying $30.
Negative , love my latinos/hispanics but this was poor representation on how you do business. I will never come here again. Recommending customer service training
The staff was also very helpful with any questions I had about the food.
I highly recommend.
I high suggest trying out different things on their menu.
I tried calling them to advance my order but they mainly speak spanish and just hang up on you if they cannot understand you. It happened to me 2-4 times as I can remember.
It’s a decent place to stay and eat. You just need to bear with the noise, smell of cooking (smoke, spices, etc) in the air.
