Just a heads up, there is a $10 minimum for cards at this place. It was a little bit of a wait to get the food. The service was a little standoffish and kind of just focused on getting people to pay. That being said, I loved the BBQ pork buns they had. It was a caramelized crust with tender meat inside. I liked the BBQ flavor with it. I obsess over char siu but it is not the best I’ve had, but very good. Stop by here if you intend to spend more money and like BBQ pork buns like me.

We were walking around Pike Place Market and saw a couple absolutely devouring a hom bow. Naturally, we had to ask where they got it and that’s how we found ourselves in line at Mee Sum Pastry. The line was long, which is always a good sign!

When we finally got up front, I was a little bummed to find out their veggie hom bow wasn’t ready yet. My boyfriend ordered the pork hom bow, and I went with the sweet red bean cake instead. He really enjoyed the pork, soft, flavorful, and packed with juicy filling. My red bean cake was a hit too, slightly sweet, and perfect for a quick bite while exploring the market.

They do accept cards, but it doesn’t seem like they have Apple Pay. I had to physically hand my credit card over. Not a big deal, just something to note if you’re used to tapping to pay.

This place is a must-visit when you’re at Pike Place. The pastries are great for grab-and-go while wandering through the market, and just watching the cooks behind the counter makes the wait totally worth it. I’ll definitely be back next time to try the veggie hom bow!

From the moment I walked up,
Mee Sum Pastry impressed me with its warm, welcoming atmosphere and the mouthwatering aroma of baked goods. I tried the signature BBQ pork and Chicken Hom Bows. Each was a little masterpiece: the BBQ pork had a perfectly caramelized crust with tender, flavorful meat inside. Every bite was fresh, balanced, and satisfying. Same with the chicken. Delicious!

Prices felt fair for the high quality, and my order was served promptly (even during a busy afternoon). It’s clear they take care in both their craftsmanship and their service.

If you’re in the area and craving excellent Chinese bakery items or dim sum-style pastries, Mee Sum Pastry is an absolute must. I’ll be going back—soon.

I didn’t try this as it’s not a flavor I’d enjoy but my husband was a big fan. We just walked up and ordered, there was a short line but it only took about five minutes to get through. We ordered and continued to walk through the market, didn’t sit in and eat.

I drool when I think of their curry hombows. The pork bbq ones are too slimy inside. The chive dumplings blew my mind and everything is perfect expect that they are rather pricy and don’t accept credit cards under $10. Matcha sesame ball is good only for the first bite, would be better with red bean filling inside.

As a general rule, I don’t stand in line for things, especially food, and especially in an area like Pike Place Market, where there are so many great food options.

However, the pork buns, dumplings, etc. at Mee Sum Pastry are worth the line…even in cold and rainy weather.

On our first night staying in Seattle we were walking around Pike Place, having already had dinner. Passing by Mee Sum Pastry around 7pm stopped us in our tracks.

During our stay of 4 days, we went to grab a bun EVERY DAY. We tried a lot of their selection. I particularly enjoyed the beef curry buns, and the chives/shrimp/chicken dumplings. I’ve never had a better dumpling and the buns are amazing. My daughter ate a bunch of pork bbq in either a hombow or a steamed bun.

We even took some buns to eat at the airport gate.

The shrimp chive dumings and Sesame Matcha snacks are both excellent. Lots of tasty filling, nice thin skin, delicious flavor combo. While its in a tourist heavy spot and the prices reflect that, and lines are long, the food is really good. Recommended.

For a Tuesday afternoon, the line wasn’t too long, but they were definitely busy. To be honest, I can’t even remember if we got the Pineapple Bun or the Curry Beef Hom Bow. I remember it was good, but not out-of-this-world amazing. I would still say it’s worth a stop if you’re touring Pike’s Place (especially if you love Chinese pastries). However, since I can’t even remember what I ordered, it wasn’t as memorable as I had hoped.

While at the market, we decided to pick up a snack here. We tried the bbq pork and curry beef hombow and they were really good. Both meats paired perfectly with the breading. This is a place to pick up the food and go. There is no place to sit down and enjoy it. Despite that, I would definitely recommend it.
