Drinks were equally enjoyable: a hot flowering tea that brewed and opened at the table (a really lovely touch), sparkling water and Asahi 0%. For dessert, we shared a strawberry mochi and warm sake, and to top it all off, the staff surprised me with a free ice cream with a candle for my birthday, complete with a greeting written on the plate in both English and Japanese. A very thoughtful gesture.
The atmosphere is peaceful, the restaurant is tastefully decorated, and the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming throughout. The bill came to just over £90 including service charge, which felt very honest and fair for the quality and experience.
Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be back
Uramaki rolls (salmon avocado and tempura) and sashimi were very nice but smaller than expected.
Spicy salmon maki was okay. The siracha flavour was too strong for me.
The food was very tasty, with the only gripe from me being that the spicy tuna maki were a little too spicy for me. However, that’s personal preference.
I can highly recommend both the tako and ika sashimi, as well as a the tonkatsu ramen and chicken gyoza, all of which were delicious.
The prices are reasonable too, but be aware that a service charge of 10% is included in the bill automatically, which is another bug bear of mine. Tipping should be optional. Stop putting it on the bill!
As someone who doesn’t particularly eat sushi, I am willing to give anything a try, I’m a pescatarian, who doesn’t eat meat but eats fish, and the first time we went I had a vegetable Katsu curry, which was hands down, the BEST curry I have ever had! When we went last night I tried the Teryaki Salmon, and again….Phenomenal!
The staff are attentive, and nothing is too much trouble, and the manager ( I can’t remember her name!) is so so lovely, we sat talking to her for quite some time, always making sure everything is okay, checking we have drinks at all times, and this place really is brilliant.
If you are out and about in Manchester and love Japanese style food, we both highly recommend Samsi! Give it a go, I promise, you will not be disappointed
