Food was really good, portions were great and on par for what we paid. Service was hit or miss, but our server was busy, so we didn’t think much of it. She did a fantastic job of touching tables and popping in to see us. I would highly recommend the Cuban, as it was larger than usual portions of ham and pulled pork.

A neighbor and friend recommended the Boat House to us, and that was reinforced by local shop owners when we asked where to find good food in town.

They are currently renovating part of the restaurant, but they are still open and going strong. Don’t let the size of the room mislead you when you first walk in—the upstairs has plenty of space to spread out.

The staff was friendly and super attentive. When we headed upstairs, a local youth hockey team was just getting settled, and it was great to see that large groups are so welcome here. Our server was prompt with seating and drinks; they were clearly mindful of the larger groups and made sure our food order went in quickly so we wouldn’t be caught in a rush. We really appreciated that extra effort.

The beer was excellent. Their specialty is blueberry beer, so I tried a pint of the Blueberry Blonde. It was great, and I’ve been told that blueberry beer can be a tough flavor to get right. For lunch, we opted for ‘The Whole Boat’ pizza. Their 14″ pizza is a true 14″—perfect for two people and very filling. The crust was crisp, never soggy, and loaded with a great assortment of meats and veggies. We even had to take a small box to-go!

We would definitely stop back in if we could. At the very least, the next time our neighbor is up here, we might have to convince her to haul one of those pizzas the four hours south to us.

The food was great and so was the service. I have to rate them low for atmosphere, but they are in the middle of remodeling, so I am sure this will get better.

They served the best cup of coffee I have had in long time. Fries and chicken were both fried perfectly. I am sure the blue cheese dressing on my salad was homemade. Whoever the cook/chef here is takes pride in what he or she does. I would will go back again when I am in town.

Food was really good. Motorboat burger, Buffalo chicken salad, hot honey chicken wings, walleye fillet, all delicious. The only problem was that our waiter had absolutely no soul and the burger took like an hour to get to the table. Everyone was done eating by the time we got it.

I’m not sure how good the food is. I’ve been waiting for over an hour and it hasn’t come out yet and it was an appetizer. They haven’t refilled our drinks. The tables that got here 20-30 minutes after us got all of their meals before we got any food. People who got here at the same time as us got their food but we have been waiting for 20 minutes still. Finally got my appetizer after an hour 15 minutes. Bread on sandwich was burnt.

Our family of 4 ate here in summer 2025. Everything we ordered was delicious: cheeseburger, chicken tenders, chicken bacon ranch salad, and a gluten free pizza. Would definitely come again! We sat upstairs – great ambience and view of Ely, but chilly. If you love it cold, you’re set, but we needed sweatshirts.

We ate here twice and got a take home pizza another time. Lots of variety. Fun drinks, great beer selections, pizza, salad, falafel, soups, and fries were all yummy. They are renovating and it appears that it will be really nice when they are finished. Found plenty to eat as a vegetarian.

The duck wings are good.. but we’re better when it was the whole wing with the wing tip include. Burgers are delicious and that blueberry blonde. Oh yeah good stuff.

We were extremely impressed with the quality and size of the “Captains Salad”.
It was absolutely the very best salad I’ve ever had in my life.
An awesome blend of ingredients, fresh and savory to the last fork full.
Ely is my favorite town in Minnesota because of its natural beauty and creative vibe.
It now has another jewel of the North, known as the Boathous Brewpub & restaurant.
Thanks to the artists who created this marvel.
