We had dinner at Frannie and the Fox with some friends. We shared some small plates like the Meatballs and the Porchetta e Patate pizza in addition to our entrées. It was a perfectly nice dinner, and the service was fast and efficient. Everything was good, but nothing stood out as very unique or exciting.

Frannie & The Fox is a beautiful space with a great energy, stylish, lively, and clearly designed to feel like a social hub rather than just a restaurant. The ambiance is probably its strongest asset: warm lighting, trendy crowd, and a vibrant, buzzy atmosphere that makes it a fun place to meet friends or grab drinks.
The food is solid, but not particularly memorable. Dishes are well-presented and approachable, but flavors feel safe and a bit predictable for the setting and price point. Nothing was bad just nothing that truly stood out or made us want to come back specifically for the food.
Service was friendly and professional, though at times it felt more transactional than personal, which is understandable given how busy the space gets. It feels more like a lifestyle venue than a hospitality-driven dining experience.
Overall, it’s a good spot for cocktails, atmosphere, and a casual dinner, but not a destination restaurant. Worth visiting for the vibe, just manage expectations if you’re going for a standout culinary experience.

I will preface this by saying I don’t really leave bad reviews. I really try hard to give every restaurant the benefit of the doubt and servers a lot of grace as I’m in service.

Let’s start with the good. The food was very good. Mine was only ok, but the rest of the food everyone ordered was really great. It’s a fairly small menu for brunch and if you are hoping to eat more lunch type food you’ll be stuck eating either salad or pizza.

Our group had two separate reservations. I checked in and told the hostess I knew we may be unable to sit together but if they wanted to put us together we had some little kids so we could squeeze. Hostess was very rude. Blew me off. Said it would be closer to reservation time (we were a whole 8 min early), and the restaurant was empty. Ok that’s fine. We got sat 15 min past reservation time and two tables not horribly far apart. No big deal.

One group had a server who seemed new, didn’t know what he was doing, was asked a basic question (do you have strawberry jam), to which his reply was no we just have jam. Um say what? What kind? Anyway. The positive here was that this server was fast, even if he was fairly clueless.

The other groups server was on her own agenda. We tried to ask questions and were ignored so the server could tell us whatever she wanted to say. She wouldn’t tell us about the main entrees until she had gone on and on about the starters and ordered our drinks. Then she took like 15-20 min just to get the drinks. Finally we were able to order the main course. Our other group was completely done before the second group even got our food. We then needed to get out of there and we’d been there for over two hours. The server says, oh you are in a hurry. We said we’ve been here a long time and need to leave soon. Our other group left over 40 min ago. She acted like we were the problem.

We finish eating. Our server is nowhere to be see. We simply want the check and a box. I spot her talking at one of the terminals to her co-worker. We are trying to flag down her or the manager to no avail. Finally the server comes to the table. We ask for the bill to be split evenly 7 ways. She very rudely states that she’s much too busy and could only split it 3 ways at most. Mind you, I’ve just watched her talk to her co-worker for 5+ min. We just pay for it all together bc we are trying to head out of there.

The silver lining is that the food was good and it was a nice atmosphere. We were seriously disappointed in the service level, especially when we had been very excited to come eat there and had heard wonderful things. Being in service myself, I usually would have tried to address with a manager on duty to try to correct the situation, but we couldn’t even get the manager to be bothered to come to our table. Pretty disappointing. I am hoping it was just an off day but from host, to manager, to servers, the service level left much to be desired, which again really sucks.

This was the best meal we had while in Charleston!!!

Drinks – were bomb! Highly recommend the espresso martinis, Pearsephone, and mums the word

Food – please please get the meatballs. I’m serious. Chopped salad and rigatoni were delicious as well!!

Great place! Very modern and beautiful on the inside. We started with the mussels and whipped bone marrow. Caesar and chopped salad and then 2 different pizzas. Food was excellent as was the staff. Highly recommend!

Sat at the bar and Chris made a great holiday cocktail for me that we ended up calling the Kris Kringle. It seemed to be a hit because people started ordering afterwards.

Along with the cocktail and beer we had a gorgeous dinner of Rigatoni, Spaghettoni, and Cacio e Pepe Risotto. All of it was outstanding and I’d go back for that rigatoni in a heartbeat.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it—the start of our experience at Frannie & the Fox was a complete disaster. But stick with me, because what followed was nothing short of magic, and by the end, we were walking away with full stomachs, happy hearts, and plans to return as soon as possible.

We had read glowing reviews about the food, and since we were in Charleston with our dog during a heat advisory, we were thrilled to hear that they allowed dogs on the patio. The only catch? We were told it’d be an hour wait; probably can seat us earlier. Fine, we thought—no big deal. In the meantime, we grabbed a bottle of wine and sat on the patio, sipping away while we waited. But what we didn’t anticipate was being left out in the sweltering heat for *an hour and 20 minutes* while five tables were seated before us.

Now, we had given our phone number to the hostesses, and they confirmed our reservation details. So, imagine our frustration when, after checking our phones endlessly with no notifications, I went to the hostess stand to check on our table. They admitted they’d completely forgotten about us. *Thanks for the honesty*, but really? It’s hot, we’re hungry, and our patience was evaporating faster than the wine in our glasses.

Finally, they sat us immediately, and Adele came over with the most sincere apology. We weren’t interested in more alcohol (we were *dying* for water at that point), and she kindly brought us a bowl for the dog and promised to take care of us. And let me tell you, she more than delivered.

Now, the food. Oh, the food. It was absolutely worth the wait. We kicked things off with whipped bone marrow—*holy moly*—I had to ask if it was butter because it was so rich and fluffy, with flavors that practically danced on the palate. It was a highlight, no question. The lamb skewer? Just *wow*. This wasn’t minced or ground meat, but true, tender lamb with a beautiful caponata that made me want to lick the plate clean. If you go, order that skewer. You’ll thank me later.

Adele’s thoughtful substitution for our missing second lamb skewer—lamb carpaccio—was another revelation. We had never had carpaccio before, but it was delicate, tender, and not at all gamey, topped with chimichurri and greens that elevated it to something truly memorable. It’s a must-try, for sure.

And then, my husband’s pizza. I honestly thought he might propose to the pizza, that’s how much he loved it. The hot honey added just the right amount of sweetness to balance the savory, and it was so good, he’s still talking about it days later.

But what really set Frannie & the Fox over the top wasn’t just the food—it was Adele’s service. She was the calming force in a moment of frustration, taking care of us with grace and kindness. We truly appreciated her presence, and it was thanks to her that we left feeling taken care of, rather than just annoyed.

In the end, the food, the service, and the whole experience turned what could have been a disaster into a memorable meal. Will we be back? 1000000%. Thank you, Adele, for making it all worthwhile.
