Serving since 1982. We offer huge Iowa steaks, cooked over charcoal, come with side and salad bar. We have a full bar with a large whiskey collection. Also offered soups, house smoked wings, Ribs, Brisket, Sandwiches. We have several dining rooms and are able to hold large groups, we do have a private room as well.
Massive steaks, including a grill-your-own option, plus sides & a salad bar at a rustic throwback.

Iowa Beef Steakhouse has quickly become my mom’s favorite spot in Des Moines and honestly, it’s easy to see why. We’ve celebrated birthdays and special occasions there, and it never disappoints. Our go-to order is usually a Ribeye or New York Strip cooked medium well, paired with a baked potato. The salad bar is always fresh and delicious, it’s one of the best parts of the meal!
This time, I switched things up and tried the wings with their Sriracha Bourbon and Mango Habanero sauces, and both were fantastic. Very flavorful with just the right amount of heat.
Our waitress was kind, attentive, and gave us space to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. As someone who used to wait tables, I really appreciate when a server knows exactly when to check in. It’s an art, and she’s mastered it.

Our group of 21 guests had dinner at Iowa Beef on Saturday, January 17, 2026. At first, we were concerned since there was only one server for all of us – and we can be a rowdy bunch. Our server, Lori P, was AMAZING! She got all of our orders in, drinks were terrific and our meals came out quickly. Everyone’s dinner was top notch as you can expect at Iowa Beef & those mushrooms. . . WOW. Lori made our experience memorable and we will request her every time we return. I got a sirloin steak loaded baked potato with a side of mushrooms and garlic bread. My steak was cooked perfectly, but it was really salty. Loaded baked potato was basic, and the mushrooms were not edible. The salad bar came with the meal it was good. The staff was extremely friendly. I had never been here before, and I have heard mixed reviews. I was disappointed. 2/10 wouldn’t recommend

A simple rural rustic environment, a big open room but not too loud. A very plainly presented meal. The steak was not overly seasoned, just a good straight up steak. I feel my medium steak was more medium rare but still very good. With a small baked potato and bread. Along with the salad bar made a good meal.

Loved everything about this place. Our waitress was so kind and the food was amazing. My mother and I had the ribeye and my daughter had the wings plain and it was all delicious no joke will definitely b coming back in the future! Definitely worth the prices!

Nice salad bar but no shredded cheese. Steaks were good, probably a 4.7 by themselves. Potato was a little undercooked, but not bad. My buddy said the Old Fashioned was good. The chicken mushroom and wild rice soup was very good. Prices were very reasonable, give it a shot.
