The roots of this venerable establishment were originally planted by Tennessee native Leroy “Van” Vandegrift, who moved with family to Oklahoma City, where he graduated from Central High. He served in the Army before working as a tool dresser in the oil fields of North Texas and began cooking for fellow roughnecks on rig sites. Around 1928, Van opened his first Pig Stand in a hotel in Wewoka, Oklahoma. It was a small little store serving barbecue such as the Pig Sandwich® and Ribs. The menu also included other types of sandwiches such as Liverwurst, Pimento, Chicken Salad, and Cream Cheese. In 1929 a second Pig Stand opened in Seminole and was then sold in 1935. Ordered 3 family meals to pick up at 5:30. Arrived at 5:30 and it was ready shortly after. The service was great! Everyone was helpful and friendly! The barbecue was delicious! Give it a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

My wife and I have visited Van’s in Purcell on several occasions.. Each visit has been met with excellent customer service and great food!!

On this visit, I sampled the smoked ham and sliced brisket accompanied by seasoned green beans and their macaroni & cheese.. My wife had their pig sandwich (pulled pork) and spiral cut, skin-on fries..

Aside from the sliced ham being just a touch dry and the mac & cheese being a bit inconsistent, everything we had was tasty and fulfilling.. Their fries, when served hot and fresh (we’ve never received them any other way), are quite good and unique!!

We’ll continue to frequent this and other Van’s locations as we’ve yet to be disappointed with anything we’ve received!!

They offer a 10% military discount, too, and while not a deal breaker, it is just an added nice touch..

Food was pretty good but the atmosphere of the place is rather nauseating, the utensils look barely cleaned and there was sauce and liquid on the seats and table where my family and I sat. If you’re not a very picky person about cleanliness then I would recommend since the food is pretty good, the psychology of the lack of cleanliness in the building caused me to vomit up my food for 3 hours afterward though. This place was amazing! Very friendly staff! Delicious food! I had brisket with mac n cheese and green beans. Mac n cheese was absolutely by far my favorite from any restaurant. Brisket was flavorful and not dry. Green beans were good but not my favorite.

I guess we just went to early. We went around 11 everything but the sides tasted old the brisket had a greyish color to it . The turkey was dry and tough . The tea was good! The meats were dry and tough

I ordered a 2 meat dinner, Brisket and sliced chicken, the portions were tiny and nowhere near fresh cooked or cut. The brisket was greasy and rubbery and the chicken was hard and very dry, for an $18 meal I was very disappointed. My wife asked for turkey and was told they had none and it was seasonal, understandable, however the sign out front indicates they have turkey.
