We were in the area for the weekend and decided to eat dinner here and it wasn’t busy. Our food was just ok. I love coconut shrimp but the ones I had here barely tasted like there was coconut in the batter, which was very thick. Mashed potatoes were cold on both of our plates. My bf had halibut and he enjoyed it, said it was ok. We didn’t say anything about the cold potatoes as the waitress never stopped back. We had to wave her down to get the bill. NOTE: prices have gone up and the menus posted in google are old! As of 9/6 halibut was over $40.

I love eating here whenever I’m in town! I’ve had the same server both times, but her name escapes me right now. It starts with an M and she used to work on Isle Royal! She is great. I’ve had the wall eye plate (YUM), the crab rangoon (made with real crab), and the lobster creamy pasta. All delicious!

What an amazing dining experience at Joey’s Seafood and Grill! Nestled beautifully on historic Shelden Avenue with breathtaking views of the Portage Canal, this place is truly a hidden gem. The moment you step inside, you feel transported—the atmosphere is like being on a ship, preparing to enjoy the night’s fresh catch.
And the food lives up to the hype! We tried a variety of dishes, and everything was bursting with flavor, from the fresh seafood to the hearty surf and turf. Our servers were fantastic, too—friendly, thorough, and happy to cater to all our requests. The fantastic menu has options for everyone, including kids and people with specific dietary needs. With convenient parking right off the street and so much to do within walking distance, this is a spot you don’t want to miss. Come for the food, stay for the unforgettable views and atmosphere.

Wow! Some of the best fish I have ever had in my life. Cooked perfectly the staff was so friendly. Absolutely loved our experience. The decor even had story’s to say where it came from which is a very nice touch of detail. Had the 3 piece fish and chips and my lovely partner had the lemon pepper white fish. If you don’t get their raspberry lemonade you are wrong. A must go to.

First of all… good lord have mercy!
Second of all… who is this chef?
We are foodies from Chicago. We recently moved to the area and were in fear of not finding a decent restaurant, there being limited options here. It was our anniversary and we thought of Fitzgeralds but they was too limited in their menu and strict with reservations. We searched and saw Joey’s. The varied menu selection helped us make a choice to go here. It’s a cute little spot with friendly staff and an Excellent chef. Hubby had a burger and I had the crab cakes. All very delicious and very much to our surprise. We will frequent this place whenever the occasion calls for it. But ONLY and ONLY if the same chef is still around. Now don’t go getting ideas of going on any cooking shows to be discovered please you are needed here!
Thank you for a great dining experience. See you soon.

Our server Kayla was amazing! We loved her she did a fantastic job, was friendly, informative and came back several times to check on us or give refills. She really was the best part of the whole meal.
We started with fried mushrooms which were nicely battered and seemed to be done in house. They did not give store bought. A couple of our meals also came with salads that were quite tasty also and a good size! That where all the good really ends. Half rack of ribs came right off the bone but they were cold, over sauced and the sauce was just cold and dumped on. Side potatoes and corn bread was also cold. Chicken tenders look like they were purchased at Gordon’s and while they were crispy didn’t have any flavor. Onion rings are battered in same as mushrooms and were crispy also buy very thick. Fried chicken is also battered in same batter as mushrooms and onion rings and it’s just not all that great.

Excellent Seafood selection, service and great prices. The Crab Rangoons were definitely homemade and the best I’ve ever had. I ordered the Shrimp Trio with 3 Coconut Shrimp, 3 Battered Shrimp with homemade cocktail sauce a opted for the Shrimp scampi as my choice for the last 6 Shrimp (hint- save the Asian sauce from the Crab Rangoon to dip 3 of your scampi Shrimp into make it a quad). Good wine pour.

We visited a few restaurants during our stay in Houghton, MI, and I have to say that Joey’s is one of the best. As the name promises, there are many fish dishes, but also a good selection of other dishes. And an appealing ambience.

The food is excellent except for the carb Rangoon where it was overcooked. The atmosphere is excellent and extremely welcoming.
