I will start with the good. The location is great and the decor felt like what we expected. Ira, the entertainment, was a little loud but the music was nice.
I wasn’t a fan of the bolognese but will not count that against them as it is their recipe.
What lowered their score… Both of our entrees were served cool/cold. The gnocchi was mushy and gluey, not light and pillowy as it should be. And the restraunt was very loud.
The cold and mushy food could have easily been handled had the server followed the two bite check back rule… Check in with your guests after two bites to make sure everything was okay. We only saw our server before the meal was delivered the next time we saw her it was at the end when she noticed that my partner didn’t eat her dish and asked if she wanted a box. I will place responsibility for this on poor training.
On top of this the menu overall is a bit pricey.
I do hope that this is used to help management step up the training.
Nonna’s is a downtown Springfield gem offering authentic Italian cuisine in a cozy, old-world setting. Everything was delicious, from the crisp salads to the main course. I had the owner’s favorite, the Spaghetti Amatriciana—thick noodles with a traditional Roman sauce of cured pork cheek, Pecorino Romano, and a hint of red pepper.
Our waiter, Alex, provided superb service; he was exceptionally personable and his expertise was refreshing. His suggestion to add one of their incredible meatballs was a perfect complement! The overall vibe is vibrant yet calm. Don’t let the challenging parking deter you; it’s well worth a couple of blocks walk. With great food and service at fair prices, Nonna’s is a must-visit!
The food was lovely and the lighting was perfect. My friend and I talked for like 2.5 hours and Alex told us we could stay as long as we liked!
Overall it was a great experience and will definitely be back!!
The atmosphere, though, was perfectly seasoned with black-and-white family photos and a pressed tin ceiling. The aforementioned hipster servers added their own pepper.
The bread served with fresh garlic and oil was a nice touch although I didn’t enjoy the bread.
The waiter was attentive and wonderful. The restaurant had a nice vibe. And the tiramisu was a-ma-zing .
I am not sure how long this location has been opened, but I really wouldn’t have hesitated to give it 5 stars if I could have heard her or my husband, seated directly across from me.
The whole experience was great and the service was excellent! My oldest daughter said that it’s her favorite restaurant:) I love that Nonna’s is still here after all these years.
Everything was delicious, as usual!
