The food was pretty good and cooked well. As far as quality the only complaint is the fried shrimp was cooked a tad too long and was a little rubbery. Not horrible, but def was overcooked.
The main complaint is the portion size for the prices paid. With tip, my wife and and paid almost $50 and the serving sizes were tiny. The baked sweet potato was slightly larger than a bar of soap. The greens, though delicious, were maybe about 5 bites worth.
All in all, it was fine. But nothing truly spectacular warranting another visit.
Upon being seated my girlfriend and I sat waiting for service for around 10 minutes. Finally I got Ms. Ashley’s attention and inquired about our waitress not attending to needs as she passed by the table quite a few times without acknowledgment.
Ms. Ashley apologized profusely about the situation and promptly asked my girlfriend and I what we would like to drink as well as what we would be having this evening.
Our actual waitress Angie only acknowledged my girlfriend and I on two occasions throughout our 1 hour visit to Jerry’s Catfish House, Ms. Ashley took care of us throughout our visit here while also directing traffic as her actual job was being a hostess.
Now with all the above mentioned being said this my second visit to Jerry’s Catfish House in my whole 45 years on earth and I myself grew up in this area. This was my girlfriend’s first time to eat at Jerry’s Catfish House.
The food was fresh and our service provided by Ms. Ashley (hostess) not Angie (actual waitress) was superb. Whether or not my girlfriend and I will be back for a visit is at this time up in the air.
Needless to say Ms. Ashley got a tip from us while our non existent waitress Angie did not.
The food was great!! Hot & fresh!! Wait there’s more….
Ashley, the hostess was wonderful she was quickly trying to get everyone seated and communicative.
My boyfriend and I had been seated about 10 mins or so, I fully understand they were Very Busy, but our server didn’t say anything or acknowledge us!!
We had waved down Ashley as she walked by and asked who our server was she stated the waitress’s name was Angie L.
Ashley also asked what we would like to drink then came back to get our order. Poor Ashley was running around seating people and also became our server.
Ashley was WONDERFUL!!
Angie L our supposed to be server was NOT!! Angie L didn’t ask how we were until the last 5 minutes we were there before leaving.
Needless to say Angie did NOT receive a tip, luckily we had cash and we gave it to Ashley. Ashley repeatedly apologized, and we told her thank you and that she was awesome!
I even had to give her a hug she looked so upset like she wanted to cry! Girl if you read this it was NOT your fault and YOU ARE AWESOME THANK YOU!! ☺️
We ordered fried catfish, hush puppies and shrimp
There was a line of people waiting for the doors to open
They opened on time
We were immediately seated
The waitress was attentive and nice
Food was served quickly
Food was hot fresh and perfectly cooked
Tea was definitely southern sweet and perfect
Prices were reasonable
The catfish filets are my go to — all you can eat, which yes is exactly that. They use Mississippi farm raised catfish, which is I’m opinion the gold standard of catfish. The filets are not thin nor overly plump. The breading is a fine cornmeal — and I suspect some small measure of flour. It is not as course as some breading, or “fry”.
Speaking of fries — they are basic, but in the best sense. They hit home. Same for the hush puppies — nothing fancy, but homemade and good.
One of the best Catfish houses in the South. And it is in a building that looks like an Igloo — how and why, but makes it even better!
