Promptly acknowledged and made my order with three people waiting on theirs. Within a couple minutes we all had our meal. No upselling. I ordered the big burger ATW with cheese and fries. When I thought to myself that I wanted a normal no fluff cheese burger I became pleasantly surprised after finishing my meal. Perfect meal and great American burger the way the should’ve made. Well done.

Since 1961 and same location? That should tell you something.

My review is based solely on the food, customer service and experience was okay. I had a cheese burger and fries and mine had no flavor whatsoever. It’s like they grabbed it out the freezer and threw it in a pot of water and flatten it smaller than a McDonalds hamburger. The only flavor I had was the mustard. That’s literally all I tasted. Definitely falls top 3 in worst burger I ever had. Throw something on it. Sazon, pepper, salt. But hey, I guess people around here like flavorless stuff.

Roy’s Big Burger has been serving old fashioned hamburgers in Richmond, VA since 1961. It’s touted as a Richmond institution, by staying the course and simply serving burgers and fries and a few extras, like chicken sandwiches and fried pickles. Take out only, though seating is available outdoors near the building. I felt the burger joint vibe and ordered a single 1/4 pounder with cheese, “all-the-way”, and a small order of fries. After picking up my brown paper bag of food, I had to eat at a picnic table while the sun warmed me on this cool Feb afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised to see the size of my purchase with a handful of ketchup packets for the fries, which were great! The burger was juicy and tasty and loaded with everything. It was a great basic meal that was both filling and satisfying.

If you’re ever in the Lakeside area and craving classic American comfort food done right, Roy’s Big Burger is the spot you have to hit. This place is an absolute staple and it feels like stepping back in time in the best way possible, with food that hits every single time.

Let’s talk breakfast sandwiches first. They’re simple, fresh, and packed with flavor. Whether you’re grabbing a bacon, egg & cheese or going for sausage, they don’t skimp on quality or portion. It’s the perfect way to start your day hearty, hot, and made with care. Today I had a chicken egg bacon and cheese sandwich with onions and pickles. It was absolutely delicious!

Now, the burgers… unreal. Juicy, perfectly seasoned patties, classic toppings, toasted buns — they keep it old school and that’s what makes them so good. Every bite is the definition of satisfaction. Add some crinkle fries tater tots or onion rings on the side and you’ve got yourself a serious meal.

And you cannot leave without trying one of their milkshakes. Creamy, thick, and full of real flavor it’s the cherry on top of the whole experience. Whether you go for vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry, it’s like a throwback to the golden age of diners.

Roy’s Big Burger isn’t just a place to eat — it’s a whole vibe. Great service, fast food made fresh, and a down-to-earth local feel that keeps people coming back. 10/10 recommend. One visit and you’ll be hooked!

Great burger joint! Not the cheapest place, but the food is definitely worth it. Outdoor, walk up restaurant. We have been coming here for years, sometimes we grab and go to Bryd Park, which is pretty much next door or just grab a table right on the premises. They have a new spot in the back, with few picnic tables and planted trees. My kids really love the fried Mac n’ cheese. We normally grab some onion rings and fries with our burgers. You can the burgers anyway you want, but I do like the “All the way”. There is usually a line, but they are pretty quick. In the summer, we will grab a ice cream for dessert. It’s been around forever, which tells you how good it is, truly has stood the test of time. Stop in, grab a bite, you’ll be happy.

I ordered a Philly steak, a hot dog, and a chicken sandwich. The food was good, but the service was disappointing. After finishing our meal, I asked the lady behind the counter for hand sanitizer. She said they didn’t have any and suggested I use the restroom instead. However, when I went to the restroom, there was no water, the toilet was filthy, and there was no latch on the door. Outside, napkins and tissue paper were scattered all over the road. Overall, while the food was decent, the hygiene and service need serious improvement.

This the best burger spot in the Richmond area! Fresh cooked with real ingredients.. We ate for three cost was around 45$.. I enjoyed the Big Burger with cheese and added bacon, I wanted egg, however, it is not available in the afternoon and Mac n’ Cheese Bites as my side with a mountain dew.. The Bites were a little empty but were average taste, wont order them again though.. My husband had the Triple Burger with bacon, they did forget the jalapeños, however, it was so good he forgot he even ordered them till after it was consumed lol with a side of fries and a Pepsi.. My child had the Chicken Tenders with a side of Deep Fried Pickles and a water with honey mustard, It was average.. Overall we will be back and will order the burgers again.. Thank you for a great lunch on a Saturday afternoon

These burgers look like they’ve been pounded! How do they squish them down so much? Even if the the buns were flopped on top, why would it be flattened to death? The fries are soggy and have no flavor. Reminds me of lunch lady fries from the school cafeteria except these weren’t even krinkled. No salt on them whatsoever. No salt packets in the bag. The meat wasn’t bad and the inside bun is toasted for a nice crunch, but for $5.30 on 1 smashed cheeseburger and $8.30 for a double, there should have been more! Fries are NOT included, but flies are. They kept buzzing in and out of the window.

The place wasn’t crowded. Only one guy was waiting for his order while the staff kept whispering to each other. We tried to get one of the employee’s attention, but as soon as he looked at us he walked to the back and ignored that we were waiting to place an order.

Ordered a Philly steak and cheese today. The food came out sooo fast which was exciting. Opened the container and the sub is literllay lit up with liquid mozzarella cheese. The cheese wasn’t hot nor was the meat on the bread. First bite and the sandwich was soggy from sooo much liquid cheese. I would have appreciated the sandwich more it was hot not room temperature. First and last time visiting.
