Had a wonderful dining experience at Royal India! We ordered Chicken Chilli Ginger, Paneer Tikka Masala, and Garlic Naan. Everything was incredibly delicious and bursting with authentic flavor. The dishes were perfectly cooked, rich, and super tasty. We also tried the Indian tea, which was the perfect finish to the meal. Great food, great service, and a truly satisfying experience. Highly recommended!

Exceptional Dining Experience at ROYAL INDIA

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

I recently had the pleasure of dining at ROYAL INDIA and I must say it was an absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish. This Indian restaurant has truly mastered the perfect combination of authentic cuisine, exceptional service, and warm hospitality that makes you feel like family.

From the moment I walked through the door, the staff greeted us with genuine smiles and enthusiasm. My server Bhavna was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and took time to explain the different regional specialties and spice levels. She made excellent recommendations tailored to my preferences and dietary requirements, demonstrating a level of attentiveness that’s increasingly rare these days.

The food was nothing short of spectacular. I ordered butter chicken that was rich, creamy, and authentically prepared. Every dish showcased the chef’s expertise and respect for traditional Indian cooking methods while maintaining consistently high quality.

What truly impressed me was how the entire staff worked seamlessly together. The manager stopped by my table to ensure everything was perfect, the food runners were efficient and courteous, and our water glasses never sat empty.

The restaurant maintained a clean, inviting atmosphere with beautiful décor. The prices were reasonable for generous portions and quality of food served. I left feeling satisfied, appreciated. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic, memorable culinary experience. This restaurant deserves every bit of praise it receives!

Tried Royal India in San Diego and left with mixed feelings. The food was overall average — the pakoda was the highlight, crispy and flavorful. Unfortunately, the rest of the dishes, especially the chicken items, were quite bland and lacked the expected spice and depth. Biryani was good . Naan and veggie curries were average . Chicken tikka was bland. . Achari chicken was good.

Service was very slow — it took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive, which was frustrating. The atmosphere wasn’t great either; the tables were cramped and it felt a bit overcrowded. They do have some beer options, which was a plus.

Not a terrible experience, but definitely room for improvement in both flavor and service. Average experience . 3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️

This is hands-down the best Indian food and ambience in San Diego. They ample seating inside, a bar to sit at with high quality beer, wine, and liquor/cocktails, outside seating, amazingly friendly staff, and the food is consistently top notch. They have a range of spice options as well. If you like mild they have that. If you are a fan of extremely spicy then try the extremely hot. As a lover of spicy food, I have only tried the hot once after trying medium hot. There was a big difference so I can only imagine the extremely hot, but it is always a huge plus to have that range of spice for all people.

If you haven’t yet eaten at Royal India, you are definitely missing out!

We are vegetarians so finding good vegetarian food is a challenge. Moreover my daughter has nuts allergies. The staff was very kind about accommodating dietary restrictions and all the curries we ordered were excellent.
Masala fries was the biggest surprise of all ! Anyone who enjoys Taco Bell Nacho fries is in for a treat, great option to try.
We plan to visit here again soon.

From the moment we stepped in, we were taken care of attentively. The servers checked in regularly without being intrusive. The food was excellent, they made necessary adjustments according to dietary needs of each person in our party. Personally my paneer tikka masala was great & roti was excellent in texture and flavor with just the right amount of butter. When someone was skeptical of ordering vegetables pakora because of having been traumatized at another Indian restaurant with broccoli as part of vegetables pakora, server offered us free sample! That was the most pleasant surprise when we got mini tablespoon size pakoras to try & they are really really good for a cold weather.
All in all, such a great experience during our visit to San Diego.

I honestly regret coming here, which is a shame because the kitchen actually does a great job. The Samosa Chat, Biryani, and Kofta Curry were delicious—but the service was so pathetic that I can’t recommend this place to anyone.

We walked in for a reservation and were met by a single staff member in the front who acted like we were invisible. He shrugged off our reservation details and reluctantly pointed us to a table. It felt like we were burdening him just by being there.

The gouging started immediately. We asked for bottled water (traveling with kids) and were charged $6 per bottle. For that price, you expect premium spring water, but we got standard bottles you’d buy in bulk. We let it slide. But then, ordering basic menu items seemed to annoy him, as if we were asking for special favors.

The breaking point was the lack of basic human empathy. Our 2-year-old got fussy, so we asked to switch our order to-go to avoid disturbing the one other table in the restaurant. Ten minutes later, our daughter fell asleep. We saw a chance to actually sit and enjoy a hot lunch in an empty restaurant, so we asked the waiter if we could switch back to dine-in. Crucially, the food was not fully packed yet—it was still being packed.

He refused. He told us he “wouldn’t change it” and that if we wanted to stay, we had to take the to-go boxes from him, open them, and serve ourselves at the table. He refused to plate the food even though it wasn’t fully in boxes yet.

I asked to speak to a manager, and he bluntly replied, “I am the manager, my name is Jaz.” If he really is the manager, this business is in trouble. To top it off, we got back to our hotel to find he hadn’t packed a single spoon, fork, or napkin. We had to go hunt for cutlery just to eat the meal we overpaid for.

To the owner: Your food is excellent, but your front-of-house is driving customers away.
