It was good food great atmosphere, but at first our waitress was not so friendly. However, after forcing conversation with her, she ended up providing better service. This is why I gave service a 4 star, it could have possibly been 3 star, but hard to gauge really.

This is a good place for trying BBQ. The quality is great but the amount of food you get is on the low side. The price is good for locals but not for students for sure. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very nice and comfy. Overall, this place is good.

This was possibly the very best BBQ we have ever had and all the sides were particularly good as well. We are just grateful we don’t have a Black Dog Smoke House in our town because we’d go broke eating there so often. We highly recommend!

Fantastic barbecue, worth the slightly steep price. Had the Wednesday special of wagyu burnt ends, they were tender, rich, and delicious and go fantastically with the Chicago bbq sauce. The garlic potato wedges were also delicious and crisp, having a thin layer of cheese melted over them. I would have taken a picture of the food but I was simply too lost in the sauce. Atmosphere was very fun, upscale casual.

Black Dog Smoke & Ale House in Urbana never disappoints, but this visit might have been my best yet.
I usually go for the burnt ends—always a solid choice—but on the recommendation of my server, I tried the beef short ribs, and WOW. Perfectly tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. I might have a new favorite.
The cornbread was the ideal side or dessert—sweet with just the right crumb—and the iced tea was cold and refreshing, a perfect pairing for the rich ribs.
Top-notch service, killer food, and that laid-back, BBQ-joint vibe that makes you feel right at home.

Incredible (re)opening weekend at the Urbana Black Dog! The tasting menu was both delicious and fun and showcased it will once again be a staple of downtown Urbana! The fried cauliflower and sweet potato was the biggest surprise of the meal and would easily order it again. Can’t wait to come back soon!

First time back at the Urbana BD location. It did not disappoint. Menu is a bit different and on point. Wait staff was excellent and drinks were cold and delicious. Food was solid and brought back great memories old school BD Urbana days just no insane wait. Hahaha.

I was very disappointed by my first experience at the Urbana black dog since the much anticipated reopening. I was open to the new menu but really nothing hit the mark. We got the burger on special and it tasted like it was cooked cooled and reheated. It was dry and nothing special flavor wise. The cheese potato wedges came out cold and also had been pre cooked and so the cheese was hard. Also there were only 5. Things got a bit better with the tri tip but not much. on the menu says comes medium but was most definitely well-done. The sides of collards and beans were better but overall $23 for this meal that didn’t fill us up was disappointing. Given the issues with the meat it makes me wonder if it’s being cooked in Champaign and reheated in Urbana. I know it takes some time to work out kinks so here is to hoping black dog figures it out and brings back the restaurant we all know and love.
PS I really wish they had outdoor seating. The parking lot is often empty and it would be so great to have tables outdoors

Urbana Black Dog is BACK! Thank the Universe! The short rib sandwich is perhaps the best sandwich I’ve ever had there (all locations). And the burrito was cr8zee… so yummy!!
