My favorite sushi restaurant period. We have been going here almost weekly for the last 7-8 years. We prefer to sit at the sushi bar when it’s just the two of us and order as much as we can eat. Our usuals include yellowtail jalapeño, miso soup, spicy tuna crispy rice & edamame. This is all then followed with sashimi, nigiri, signature nigiri and sometimes a lobster tobanyaki. Everything… and I mean EVERYTHING is AMAZING. I can honestly say I’ve never had a single thing I didn’t like or a day when anything wasn’t beyond perfect.
The only downside is that I love every single dessert and have room for only 1 or 2 each time. The chocolate kyu, angel food cake, green tea ice cream + chocolate soufflé, donut… ALL THE BEST DESSERTS. Out of all the restaurants in Atlanta- Umi’s the best.

I’ve also been to M upstairs (10000000/10) and love Himitsu as well but I wanted this review to only be for Umi.

If you’re not a fan of dark restaurants, you might want to skip Umi. It’s a nice ambiance but it’s not heavily lit.

The service was great! Dickson was our waiter. He was very friendly and attentive!

Food was great! I had the shunbun drink. It wasn’t strong which was perfect for me. I also ordered the tempura rolls & chicken teriyaki. We will definitely be back!

This is one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. It’s the second time I have gone and both have gone above and beyond what I could have expected. With sushi restaurant I tend to get overwhelmed at the choices and end up getting things in my comfort zone. But both times I got the chef menu and each course is near perfect and you end the night not feeling overly full which allows you to enjoy every bite. Listen to the instructions from your server as to properly and most effectively enjoy the meal. You won’t be disappointed

Wow, what a fantastic experience I had at Umi. Everything on the menu is super delicious. My waiter was Liz—OMG, the best!! At the bar were Jose and John. They helped me with my drinks—super cool people. Jose and John will guide you to your perfect drinks. They are amazing. When I am back in Buckhead, I’m definitely going back. Our tab with food and drinks was over $1,200, and it was worth every penny. It is a must when in Atlanta. You need to go!

My wife and I went here for dinner recently. We do a lot of high end/fine dining so I know what to expect generally. The food was truly incredible, some of the best sushi i’ve ever had! Everything else about the experience left something to be desired. Staff is generally unfriendly. Not unprofessional or rude, but they do not make you feel welcomed and are very… curt. I NEVER expect service workers to like, kiss my butt or anything, but at this price point I do think we should at least be treated like guests! It felt like we were inconveniencing them by being there! Additionally, and frankly way more importantly, it is SO. FRIGGIN. LOUD. its insane, you can’t hold a conversation, you cant even hear yourself think. theres too many tables in such a small space and the music is BLASTING and doesn’t fit the vibe AT. ALL. I love the B52’s as much as any georgia resident but man, that is NOT what i was expecting at a high end sushi place. my ears were literally ringing when we left. PLEASE turn the volume down, honestly i do Not blame the service staff for being unfriendly, i cannot IMAGINE having to work in that environment. Additionally it’s long table style group seating, and we got sat next to a couple having the worst first date everrr. that actually might be a plus, at least it was entertaining An additional, slightly petty gripe I have is that we were late to our reservation because we literally just COULD NOT find the entrance. Why is it so hidden, who designed that damn entrance??? real instance of form over function.

I really wanted to like this place. Japanese cuisine is one of my favorites, and i hear they have a speakeasy at this location and I would have loved to try and get in on that. My wife and I ordered a few things, but we just could NOT take all the noise and unfriendly vibes from our server, so we left before we even got to try everything we wanted. Overall, pretty disappointing unfortunately.

I’m into fitness.. like fitness whole sushi in my mouth~

✨From the moment I walked in @umisushiatl, the ambiance set the tone—elegant, modern, and sophisticated, yet still warm and welcoming.

Omakase by Chef @kazuosushiboss was another great Omakase experience in the books❣️ Each course was thoughtfully curated. What stood out most was not just the impeccable quality of the fish but also the harmony of textures and flavors. Each bite had its own story, and the pacing allowed me to fully appreciate every element. The uni was my personal favorite. It was so fresh & clean. Arigato ‍♀️ & I learned a new word to prepare me for Japan “Itadakimasu” meaning “I humbly receive.”

Highly recommend for sushi lovers, special occasions, or anyone wanting to indulge in a truly elevated culinary experience

My boyfriend and I went to Umi for my 21st birthday dinner. Fine dining in Atlanta is nothing of unusual for me but my experience with Umi was quite disappointing.
My table was small and compact that did not have a table light for me to read my menu and I had to use the flashlight. The room was packed with people and it seemed like everyone is loud just to get their words out. If you are looking to have intimate conversation, this is not the place.
My waiter was dismissive and rushed. I ordered a total of 5 dishes but finished eating in 20. My boyfriend has not even finished picked up one piece of nigiri before the waiter took our plate away and rushed us to order more. No time to converse nor enjoy the dinner. This was the most unfriendly and unprofessional experience I have had with a waiter.
Food was overall okay. I was looking for memorable taste but I could not find it here. I wish fine dining at Umi consists more than just caviar or “organic” wasabi.
Never have I ever dined at upscale restaurants for a birthday celebration without complementaries from them but at Umi, it is not a priority for them to keep customers satisfied.
