Traditional Italian cuisine, including fresh pasta, in an intimate setting with outdoor seating.

The servers here are all super friendly and funny. I finally found a garlic white wine clam pasta done right — it was amazing! Not too oily, not too salty, but still really flavorful. The portion was generous too. I absolutely loved it!

Valentine’s day dinner was appalling. They obviously double booked tables as there were lines of people waiting for the entire 3 hours we spent at the restaurant. Although polite, the servers do not seem to know what they’re doing. They were very unprepared for a busy day like valentine’s day. Orders for each course took a very long time to come out, and servers were bringing the wrong food and drinks to every table around us. One table received random appetizers twice while waiting for their entrees. If you asked for water or other simple things, you would be forgotten about and not brought it for a very long time. We asked for a specific temp range for my partners steak, but were told they don’t temp their steaks which we found very odd. When the steak entree was brought out there was a hair in the pasta. For an upscale dining experience this is completely unacceptable. Our appetites were immediately ruined, but we tried to enjoy a few small bites of what we could eat of the meal. The steak was incredibly salty and very chewy, we have had a better steak at cheap chain restaurants. My partner said it was comparable to a microwave Salisbury steak meal. Honestly at this point in the evening, it seemed like that would have been the better choice. Instead of staying we asked to just take the entrees to go even though we had just received them (2 hours into our reservation). We also noticed that there were two plates of dessert that were left sitting on a piano for hours. This is very concerning and unacceptable. Where is the food handling safety here? Unsurprisingly both my partner and I felt sick after returning to our hotel, such a horrible way to spend valentine’s day night. Our evening was completely ruined. For 100$ per person and included 18% gratuity, this was a complete waste of time and money. We enjoyed this resturant in the past and recommended it to others, but we will definitely not be returning in the future.

We visited this restaurant on Valentine’s Day with a 9:00 PM reservation. Unfortunately, despite having a reservation, we had to wait approximately 30 minutes to be seated.
After our appetizer was served, there was a significant delay before our main courses arrived — our entrées were brought to the table at 10:40 PM. I ordered a steak, but no one asked how I would like it cooked. It arrived overcooked and did not meet expectations.
The service overall was very disorganized. The servers seemed confused about which dishes belonged to which tables and were constantly running around without coordination.
To make matters worse, when it was time to pay, the server added a tip on their own without asking or informing us. This was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.
Overall, we were very dissatisfied with the service and the experience, especially for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day.

Great ambience and decor throughout the restaurant. The view out of the arched windows gives a European feel. There are a few vegetarian options available as well. The host is a very pleasant gentleman who explains everything in great detail. The gnocchi is a standout dish, and ranks among the best gnocchi I’ve ever had.

I went to Donatello with my friend last month, and I was so surprised that Toronto has such a truly good Italian restaurant! I’ve been living here for two years and have never found an Italian place this authentic. I ordered the Pasta Fungole with scallops and shrimp. it was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The service was also above and beyond. Highly recommended!

The soup was so, so. The tortellini was nice, and hot. I have asked for a Italian beer, first time, never had that before. The waiter poured my beer in to a glass next to me. I had almost my glass empty, the waiter was next to us, if everything was okay. “Ow I will bring you a new beer sir.”
Not for me anymore, it looks like they did not appreciate our presence. It seems like they were looking when we ware ready.
tip was also automatic (20%) for a party of two during evening meal.

A quaint place with good food and attentive service. The flavours were all there. The portions were generous enough and the bread was warm. The prices reasonable. I very much appreciated their lunch hours flexibility, unlike all other places in the area. I may come back.

We came here for Valentine’s Day and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. We were seated and waited about 30 minutes before bread was brought to the table. Our main courses took nearly two hours to arrive. While our waiter was polite, even basic requests like refilling water took an unusually long time.
I understand that holidays like Valentine’s Day are busy, but that’s exactly why restaurants should be properly prepared and staffed to handle the volume.
The food itself was underwhelming. Several dishes were overly salty, and the seafood did not taste fresh. Overall, the quality was mediocre at best.
With a bill close to $300, we expected a more upscale and attentive dining experience, which we did not receive. To make matters worse, a mandatory gratuity was added to the bill without it being clearly communicated beforehand and given the service, it certainly did not feel deserved.
Very disappointing overall

I don’t usually give poor ratings if the food is okay, but this place deserves a second thought before you decide to visit. Food was okay, the pasta with shrimps and scallops was actually pretty tasty which my friend and I both enjoyed. Service was okay at first, but several waiters came to our table asking if they could take the plates away while we were still working on our food, one after another, which felt like they were rushing to get us out and was truly annoying. When the waiter brought the bill and we asked if we could do a split, he told us he could not do it and NEXT TIME we should tell him in advance. That said, just like everyone else, a gratuity of 20% (total after tax) was automatically added for such poor service. Unfortunately there will not be a NEXT TIME. Shockingly disgraceful.

Donatello Restaurant is a hidden gem in Toronto that truly captures the essence of old-school Italian dining. From the outside, it looks unassuming, but once you step inside, you’re welcomed into a warm and charming space that feels like a secret escape. The ambiance is classic and inviting, and the food is simply amazing. Rich flavors, high-quality ingredients, and perfectly executed dishes. Whether it’s pasta, seafood, or steak, every bite is a delight. With excellent service and an intimate atmosphere, we had a fantastic time and highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic Italian cuisine.
