We believe that the experience of eating hand rolls is truly something special and worthy of its own restaurant, so we created KazuNori — The Original Hand Roll Bar.® At KazuNori, our commitment to quality is unwavering, just as it is at SUGARFISH. We serve only the freshest fish, along with specially harvested seaweed, housemade sauces, and our signature warm rice. KazuNori is the first restaurant of its kind, and we think that eating one of our just-made hand rolls, with its crispy nori, warm rice, and delectable ingredients, will redefine what you think about sushi.
Stylish restaurant with an industrial vibe specializing in Japanese seafood rolls.

When you finish, your stomach is always saying no more while your taste buds are saying more please! The absolute worst thing I can say about this place (for them), is that it is five minutes walking distance from where I live, which means I have to put up with my presence on a regular basis lol
Six stars out of five on all fronts!
There were two empty spots at the bar, and I chose the one less cramped (it was still cramped). Service was lackluster. I didn’t even get a pair of chopsticks when I sat down and had to ask for them myself. I opted for the 6 piece handroll set: toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab, and lobster. The first half, the fish, disappointed me. The toro tasted flat. So did the yellowtail and salmon. But the shellfish were pretty good. I usually don’t like raw scallops, but the bay scallops were good. Fresh and slightly sweet. The crab was good too, but the crab is good everywhere. The lobster was fine.
I was still hungry after these 6 handrolls, so I ordered an eel handroll a la carte. The eel handroll was good. And it was hot. It was the hottest out of all the handrolls I had, presumably because it was taken right off the grill. In terms of size, it was also the most substantial. I wouldn’t say that I was full or satisfied even after the eel, but the eel got me to a point where I could comfortably leave the restaurant (I was hungry again later that night).
My bill came out to $45. For the quality and quantity of food I received, I wasn’t completely satisfied. I might be willing to try a different branch of Kazunori another time, but I would not return to the DTLA location.
One of the biggest wins was how easy it was to get seated. We walked right in and were seated at the bar with no wait, which was a refreshing change from the Marina del Rey location, where there’s often a line. Same high quality, same precision, just a smoother experience overall.
The hand rolls were consistently fresh, perfectly balanced, and served at a great pace—never rushed, never slow. Everything tasted clean and intentional, exactly what you expect from Kazunori.
I also really appreciate that the Downtown LA location is open late: until 11:00 PM on weeknights and 11:30 PM on weekends. That alone makes it a standout option for a late dinner that still feels special and well executed.
Small details matter, and even the restrooms were thoughtfully done—with both scented and unscented hand soap available, which I genuinely loved.
We walked from less than a mile away, and the walk felt easy and safe, adding to how relaxed the whole night felt.
All around, this location checks every box: excellent food, no wait, late hours, and a calm, efficient vibe. We’ll definitely be back.
