My wife & I went to ‘The Keg’ to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The reason why chose this restaurant was actually due to seeing it on ads while watching NHL games that take place in Canada. We always joked about it & we decided to take the next step to try it out after years of seeing it. If anything, we were surprised to see a location in Arizona.
When we arrived, we were greeted by their staff. They congratulated us on our wedding anniversary, which was nice of them to do. I recommend having a reservation as there can be a wait. We waited about 5-7 minutes with a reservation. The groups who arrived without a reservation waited much longer.
When we were seated, we were asked if we were celebrating any special occasion. The funny thing was that we were asked that same question by 3 other staff members over the night. We could tell that this is the type of restaurant that many go to for a special occasion.
Our server, Noah, was great. He was attentive & helped us guide through the menu. It happened to be ‘Arizona Restaurant Week’ when we dined in, so we decided to take up their offer on the 3 course meal. We both got Caesar salads to start & they were delicious. The fresh bread that was brought to the table was incredible. I could have eaten 2 more loafs myself. The whipped butter paired well. I decided to try the blueberry lemonade. It was refreshing, but it is a bit sweet. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for a tart drink.
The main entire that I ordered was the prime rib with a twice baked potato. The twice baked potato was tasty & paired well with the prime rib. I thought my prime rib was excellent. I ordered it medium rare & it was spot on. My wife ordered a sirloin with blue cheese & roasted vegetables. She enjoyed her meal as well. The only thing I would say is that the actual plating of the meal was a bit messy. It was all over the place & for the price of the meal, it looks sloppy. I personally do not mind as long as the flavor is there, but I know many would be upset over that.
We both had desserts & I personally loved the sauce on the cheesecake. We thought ‘Billy Miner Pie’ was the star of the desserts. The fireside old fashioned was good. It’s really sweet, but that’s to be expected.
We learned that if you go there for an anniversary, they’ll provide you with a free toast of champagne. This was a great perk. The champagne was solid. We really appreciated that.
Overall, we really enjoyed ‘The Keg’. It was about $75 per person, but we thought it was worth the price for a special occasion. The staff were great & welcoming. We recommend stopping in if you are looking to celebrate a special occasion.
They also gave us a huge slice of delicious Oreo/caramel ice cream cake for free and $10 off our check which was very very nice of them. Truly appreciated! They definitely get a 10/10 for their service. We highly recommend this restaurant for your special occasions.
None of the food was bad. It just missed the mark for the price.
The wait staff was very friendly and made the evening very nice.
We also had to wait a little while for our waiter to come over. I believe his name was Antonio. His overall demeanor felt a bit off, but we did not let that interfere with celebrating our daughter’s special day.
We ordered calamari as our appetizer and again requested iced water with straws and lemons. For our entrées, we ordered a prime rib sandwich with fries, two burgers well done with fries, a New York strip steak with fries and mushrooms, a shrimp dish with seasonal vegetables, and grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
When our food arrived, everything tasted good overall; however, the seasonal vegetables were disappointing. The carrots were undercooked, the green beans were overcooked, and the fries were a little too salty.
Our waiter did ask if we were celebrating anything, and we told him it was our daughter’s birthday. Since we have dined here before, we knew that a complimentary dessert is usually provided for birthdays. He presented us with dessert options and brought the dessert, and we specifically requested no almonds due to a nut allergy. Later, we noticed the dessert had been added to our bill, so we had to call the waiter back to have it removed. My advice is to always carefully review your bill to make sure everything is correct so you are not overcharged.
Overall, the food was good and we still had a nice time, but I do wish our server had shown a more positive attitude and paid closer attention to the reservation notes.
