Food is good. But they have lost their minds when it comes to price. Back 2 years ago when egg prices were ridiculous they raised the price of the southern omlet to $15 and some change. I just got the same omlet today 03-8-2026 and it was $18.65. That is absolutely insane. $20 for this and there’s barely any hash browns and the omlet isn’t even chaulked full of fillings. It would be semi acceptable if the omlet weighed like 2 lbs and was super full. I have been coming to Kate’s for 10 years. I used to get it once a weekend now it’s once every 3-4 months and it will be even longer now.

This place was fantastic. Some of the best breakfast I have had. I had the meatlovers omelette with feta, with potatoes with added grilled onions and peppers along with some biscuits….PERFECTION. Also tried the pecan pancakes…also…PERFECTION. Coffee was fresh. PLEASE GO HERE. IT IS SMALL BUT FANTASIC. Also, they only accept cash or check. I loved it.

It is small cozy place. The food is so worth the wait. The best biscuits and gravy hands down. I’m a southern girl and this is the closest to my grams I’ve ever come. Yumm!! The pies, I cannot say enough. The meringue best ever! The blueberry. Wow! The pecan Too! The staff is wonderful. Well worth your the trip wherever you are. One thing to know. Cash or check only. No card machine.

First and foremost you should know is that they do not take credit cards. Understanding that there are service charges and processing fees that go along with business costs, it is a head scratching choice. In Q2 of 2024 when even street side hot dog vendors are taking electronic forms of payment, It is an eye rolling inconvenience. They will take cash and checks if you still have them.
On the weekends this place is always packed, And used to be a staple for our family pre and post COVID. We tend to not visit as often anymore as quality could be hit and miss. The service is always lovely and we’ve never had a bad interaction with wait staff. They did recently update the interior but we make the kids take hoodies because it’s ALWAYS cold inside.
On our visit today we got a seat right away and the food was really good. It hit right in that sweet spot of nostalgia and scratching an itch. Kate’s used to be one of down rivers best kept secrets for incredible home cooked food for good reason.
After speaking with the family today I think it’s going to be back on our normal rotation.

Check the photos for current menu prices, not the menu link tab. The menu link tab on this page we’re when the prices were reasonable. They are hyperinflated from the old prices. $8+ for just eggs, toast, and 3 bacon ($3.10 extra if you want home fries). I have eaten all over the country, and Kates is average at best and does not substantiate these higher than average prices. We likely won’t be back as there are better local options at more reasonable pricing.

If you don’t get here before 9:30am forget about getting a seat. This place is always packed and for good reason. Their food is fabulous and their pie if you buy and put in the oven at home is mouthwatering. Got their biscuits and gravy and a simple egg and toast breakfast and everything was delicious!! But again after 10am the line is out the door on weekends.

Had the biscuits & gravy, it was kinda bland & really thick gravy. The biscuits are a little doughy but not too bad. This dish I would not recommend. The western omelette was pretty good but those potatoes were absolutely delicious.

I was so excited to go try this place I seen so many good reviews so I took the trip and when I got there it smelled so good inside it made me even more excited but all that came to a crashing halt when I received food that wasn’t even cooked all the way how do you mess up pancakes? My pancakes looked like they had cream filling that’s how raw they were! I also ordered the biscuits and gravy and the biscuits were good but the gravy had no flavor at all so I didn’t eat it. You would think a business would just apologize and not charge you for your order but I was still charged for items I didn’t eat that got sent back so unfortunately I had a horrible experience hopefully it doesn’t happen to anyone else

The restaurant was NOT busy when we were there. Our waitress took probably 10+ minutes to take our order. Their fryer was down so no chicken or fries for the kid. Food took 20+ minutes for simple breakfast. When we asked how much longer, we were told they have a small kitchen and only 2 pans. Eggs came out cold, home fries were the only option and they were way over salted, missing items, cold toast with butter still not melted, etc. Our waitress never came back to ask if our food was okay or if we needed anything.
This place used to be great. I don’t know what happened but it’s went totally downhill. I won’t go back to pay $15 for breakfast before beverage or tip.
