We had lunch at The Gundis today, and it was outstanding from start to finish. We arrived around 1 PM and loved that both the breakfast and lunch menus were still available.

We began with the baba ghanoush and fresh pita. The pita alone is worth the visit. Warm, soft, and perfectly made.

For my entrée, I ordered the Zaza Pasta with grilled chicken, spicy tomato sauce, îsot, goat cheese, and olive oil. It was absolutely delicious, rich, balanced, and full of flavor.

Others in our group had the spicy tofu scrambler and the Mountain Salad with tofu, mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, onion, bell peppers, dried apricot, parsley, walnuts, feta, olive oil, and pomegranate dressing. Both dishes were fresh, vibrant, and beautifully prepared.

Our waiter, Lokman, delivered true 5-star service. He was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable.

The restaurant is clearly popular and busy, so reservations are recommended. If you haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out. This is a must-try spot, and we’ll definitely be back to explore the dinner menu.

Thank you again, Lokman, for the great food and service!

I was searching for Kurdish food restaurant in Boston area literally a few months ago in 2025 and this restaurant popped up on top of the list on Google Maps. I took a closer look at it and learned that it is located in Chicago. At that moment, I hadn’t been to Chicago and I thought that, would that be crazy that if we go to Chicago to taste food in this restaurant. Anyway, I saved this restaurant in my “restaurant to visit” list and never thought about it again since I am based in Boston. Until this March came, against all odds, me and my Kurdish man decided to come to Chicago to take a break from work for a few days. And I suddenly recalled that there was a Kurdish restaurant in Chicago waits for us. So, here we are, we had very nice food and received warm and sincere hospitality from the Kurdish staff who worked in this restaurant. Especially I was happy to see my Kurdish man talk with them in his mother tongue, which was a good moment for him, even though I don’t understand a single word. We both agreed that it was one of the best moments that we have shared in Chicago, and during the past year…TBC

Best service EVER! Very attentive serving staff, amazing food. Music is not loud and the ambience is laid back, non pretentious and very relaxing. Kurdish tea is simply the best. Honey salmon, stuffed chicken, sampler appetizer, salads and dessert, all SPOT ON!

What a delicious feast! The 2-person Kurdish breakfast is so filling, with unique offerings and utterly tasty choices, served in perfect pairs. The Kurdish coffee, with a strong pistachio flavor, was an excellent addition.

HINT: arrive when they open if you don’t want a massive wait. This place is popular for a reason!

The most incredible experience in Chicago!!!! Wow wow just woooooow!!!!! The absolute best meal I’ve had in a long time. The food is so warm and fresh and cooked to perfection. The flavors were incredible and everything we tried was delicious. They had so many gluten free options which was incredible. The service was also timely, kind, and generous. We had a blast and highly recommend dining here. We cannot wait to be back.

Finally got a chance to check out The Gundis last weekend — our first time trying Kurdish food! We ordered the baba ganoush, lentil soup, stuffed chicken, and Adana kebab. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I especially loved the lentil soup and stuffed chicken — both were incredible. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, and their recommendations were spot on. We really enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Found this via Reddit when looking for a unique breakfast option in Chicago. Presentation and service here were exceptional with the Kurdish coffee a unique treat (similar to Turkish coffee but creamy and smooth).

We got the Kurdish Breakfast for two with the lamb egg scramble, which was great. Olives were fresh and delicious, the jams all paired well with the bread and the black sesame butter was a nice savory taste to experiment with. My wife loved the fries (I prefer crispier but the flavor was great) and I enjoyed all 3 of the cheeses.

The Kurdish tea is served with sugar cubes and with the added sweetness is great.

I had a wonderful breakfast at The Gundis Kurdish Kitchen. The spread was generous, fresh, and full of authentic Middle Eastern flavors. The menemen, fresh breads, and small plates were all delicious, and the traditional tea made the experience even warmer. Cozy atmosphere, kind service, and truly comforting food. I’ll definitely be back :))
