I’ve held off reviewing this restaurant a long time. Every few years I go back to check. I kept telling myself, “one day they will surprise you.” As of my last visit, I conclude the restaurant and it’s clientele are happy the way it is–not good. Aside from the beautiful wooden tables and benches, everything about this place is below average in every way; the food is overly greasy and heavy, food prep and texture are minimal, and everything is utterly lacking in nuance and flavor.
From the massively over peppered salsa to the heavy thick greasy corn chips, to the unseasoned guacamole, and bland rice and beans. Everything front-facing about this restaurant tries to tell you what kind of restaurant it is, and I just didn’t want to believe it. I do now though. If you enjoy this restaurant, I am happy you can enjoy it. For those with acute senses, I would suggest you spare them this experience, but that’s just my honest foodie opinion.

The service was really good. They were friendly and very attentive. I’ve been trying to look for a Mexican restaurant that makes really good nachos. I was pretty bummed that the nacho selection was either beef, beans, or both. It would be awesome if they had a create your own nachos thing.

El Tapatio in Okmulgee has become a weekly ritual for us, and for good reason. We’ve worked our way across the menu and honestly, it’s all excellent. But the chicken milanesa? Buddy, that’s the one we keep coming back for. Great food, generous portions, and a staff that’s always friendly and welcoming make it easy to feel at home every visit.

Food was OK, service wasn’t that great. They weren’t overly busy but they seated us by the door going out to the patio. Every time someone came in or out, which seemed like a lot, I got a cold draft blowing down your back. Temperature was in 50s. My Wife finished before I did but she ordered a tostada a la carte. Waiter, or manager came and took her plate and started to take mine as well til I stopped him. He came back several times as if he was trying to get rid of us. Made me feel very uncomfortable. Won’t be going back to this restaurant.

Very good food! Well priced! Friendly staff! Unlike the majority of Mexican places the had a good amount of food and they did not skimp on the meat! The restaurant is very small and thus it amplified the sounds and was very noisy! But overall it was a great experience and I was very satisfied. I will be a returning customer

El Tapatio is a casual place for Mexican food in Okmulgee. They are located just off Highway 75 and have a fair-sized indoor seating area, very friendly and timely service.
We shared an order of Nachos Tapitio here recently that was decent. Was served a large plate of chips topped with shredded chicken, minced beef, beans, onions, chopped lettuce, thick cut tomatoes and a fair amount of melted and cold shredded cheese. Chips mostly broke under the weight of the toppings so we had to eat with a fork. Overall, this was a decent nacho order, not great but not bad either.

Stopped in for lunch on a long road trip. Beware the large margarita. It’s great, but it’s LARGE! Sadly couldn’t finish due to the drive ahead.
I had the lunch special no. 1 and nothing to critique there. Salsa for the free chips and salsa was pretty mild, but the bottles of tapatio and el yucateco at the table make for an easy solve. Other than ordering more margarita than I could handle, no regrets.
