Had to try this place out because good reviews but it was okay I guess customer service really sucked i asked to put hot sauce all over my burrito like I ask anywere else I go to eat a California burrito never do anyone else have a problem doing it. I mean I am paying right don’t want to have to open it all up after I get it and do it myself and there was no other orders they was doing so not like they was busy but the young girl told me no they don’t do that if I want hot sauce I can get it myself and pointed to were it was to serve myself so I’m not going to make a issue out of it I just figure after this I won’t come back to this place but one spot that’s got great sauce as well as bomb cali burritos is Sayulitas Mexican Food restaurant there a little more pricer but the there more bigger and taste better just saying maybe cali burritos just not there specialty and the rest of there food is good

I love this place. I went back last week for a second time and had another great experience.

I always wind up here at 2 am and the music is blaring. The guy working has amazing taste in music and is rocking out while cooking and serving.

Oh yeah, the surf and turf burrito is ‘no mames’ good.

Very casual but the best taco shop. Price has gone up over the years but it’s still a great burrito with no rice to fill you up. We always stop here when in San Diego.

The moment you get cheddar cheese on a Mexican dish you know it’s going to be bad. Very nice try though, but the flavor “sazón” just wasn’t there.

The salsas were terrible, that might have made the difference, but they were watered down and terrible flavor.

I will continue to look for the real Mexican cuisine in San Diego. There has to be one and I will find it.

I was excited to eat at Roberto’s Taco shop #1

I will continue to go to the Roberto’s on El cajon Boulevard by 41st Street

But I will never ever go to Roberto’s Taco shop #1 ever never again never ever ever!

I suggest you don’t go either!

First off the service was horrible! There was only two people working and the guy at the cash register could care less the guy cooking wasn’t even there it was 20 minutes before he even knew that I had an ordered. I don’t know where he was out back smoking or whatever….

Apparently the guy who took the order is not allowed to cook cuz he just took the order and then didn’t do anything I didn’t even see him go and tell the guy that there were three orders for three different people

There were only three customers in the restaurant and only one more came in and left when he ordered his food and the guy didn’t even start cooking for 15 minutes. He left saying he’ll come another time and he’s got his receipt because he couldn’t wait any longer.

I waited 21 minutes before my order was read by the cook at started cooking I don’t know who’s order

Then the cook microwaved the food

All the cooking done by the cook was a microwave…

This is a famous Mexican taco shop

Roberto’s Taco shop #1

All the tables were dirty

There was literally no business

And they use the microwave to cook all the food!

The food was barely edible

When I ordered, I ordered a burrito. Within one minute I asked if I could upgrade my order to a combo plate to include beans and rice and tortillas etc

So he overcharged me for the upgrade

I asked about the overcharged and he said it was for inconvenience

I should have gotten the message right then and there but for 50 cents I figured it was worth it to eat at Roberto’s Taco shop #1 on Highland Boulevard in national City

I don’t even know that it’s number one it says it on the wall outside and he confirmed it when I asked inside

So then when the guy finished making my food he put it in a to-go Trey even though I said it was for eating in and then he left it there on the counter for 3 minutes before I went up and said excuse me can I have my food because the cashier didn’t come back and deliver it… To the counter one and a half feet away.

The cook couldn’t put it on the counter and say here’s your food

And the cashier could only take your order and overcharge you and not do any cooking

It was overall a very bad experience that I wish I hadn’t had

It was kind of expensive for won chile relleno and a scoop of beans and a scoop of rice

Oh yeah and then there weren’t any tortillas either I didn’t ask about it because I just wanted to get out of there as fast as I could

California Burrito Ranking (2)

Embarking on a quest to rank San Diego’s California Burritos!
Stop #2: Roberto’s Taco Shop
Product: This California Burrito was packed with meat and had a vibrant combination of sour cream, crunchy onions, tomatoes, and cheese. It was also slightly cheaper than other places. Wait time: Had to wait for a few minutes. 6 out of 10
Service: The interaction was quite positive. 8 out of 10
Ambiance: The decor was colorful, but it was a bit unclean. 6 out of 10

Carne asada burrito birth place. So they say on you tube! The carne asada has real steak instead of the imitation flat top meat you get at the others. Comes with only guacamole and Pico de Gallo. Give it a try!
Also, tried the #8 special. Rice, beans, and 3 rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese. It was OK, rolled tacos are what they are.

Don’t understand why they promote OPEN 24hrs. These guys close at random times of the night. I’ve talked to some of the employees and they always say they close between 3 and 330am for deep cleaning. I’m outside the establishment as I write this, it’s 4:51am and they are closed.

These are not little street tacos. They put blended guacamole on everything. And the rolled tacos are like large taquitos. Everything tasted great.
