Hey, we tried a great restaurant in Sylva, North Carolina today called Foragers Canteen. While the restaurant had a steady flow of traffic, there was always seating available. Foragers Canteen is an open, welcoming space with a warm atmosphere and a large bar on one side, perfect if you’re in the mood for a tasty microbrew. Although I am not a professional food reviewer, I enjoy sharing great places.

We started with crispy fingerling buttered taters before digging into their fried, yes, you heard that right, fried deviled eggs. Just try them. They have a light coating on the egg whites that adds an extra crunch.

Next came our entrées: a Forager’s Reuben, which was fantastic, and the “Bad Motherclucker,” their signature sweet tea brined chicken sandwich. The chicken was incredibly moist, and since I had to split it, I also ordered a side of chicken tenders to go. They were amazing and definitely not your average off-the-truck tenders you find everywhere else. Lastly, don’t forget to get the salted sweet tater tots as a side.

The service was outstanding and meal was well worth the hour drive, and we’ll definitely be going back. A+++

This was not what I was expecting — in the best way possible. I came here with a friend who had visited the previous location before they moved, and I can confidently say this experience delivered exactly what I needed.
First, let’s address the only downside: my burger was slightly overcooked. The server was very kind and attentive, but by the time she came back around to check on us, it felt a little late to send it back. I decided to remove the meat and enjoy the rest of the burger — and surprisingly, it was still very good. My only hope for next time is that everything comes out cooked exactly as intended.
Now for the positives — because there are plenty.
The wait time was excellent. We didn’t have to wait for a table, and the food came out in a timely manner. That level of efficiency definitely adds to the overall experience.
This restaurant is clearly operating at a high level. The location is great, the atmosphere is welcoming, and everything feels well-managed. You can tell there’s pride behind what they’re doing.
We ordered The Goat Burger with Crispy Buttered Taters and started with the Fried Deviled Eggs.
The fried deviled eggs were a standout. They had a salty base with a slight kick of heat, and the pickled onions brought in a sweet, tangy balance that elevated the dish. The salty-sweet combination worked beautifully together. A strong appetizer choice.
As for The Goat Burger — aside from being slightly overcooked — the flavor was impressive. The patty was well seasoned, and the fried goat cheese paired with bacon created a rich, savory profile that complemented the crispy buttered taters perfectly. Everything worked cohesively on the plate. Even after removing the meat, the toppings and structure still delivered strong flavor.
The food was absolutely worth the money. I left feeling full and satisfied without feeling overly heavy, which is always a plus.
This is a place I will go back to again and again. I would confidently recommend it to others — great location, good food, good people, and solid service. They also offer wine and beer for those who want to enjoy a drink with their meal.
Overall, a very strong experience. I’m looking forward to coming back — and next time, I’m hoping everything comes out cooked perfectly.

Phenomenal meal and phenomenal service.

We arrived within an hour of them opening, and it was packed. Themed Christmas cocktails were tasty.

She wanted breakfast, I wanted lunch, so we got the best of both worlds. She got a brunch bowl (don’t remember which) and added chicken tenders — which she enjoyed. I got a Goat Burger but subbed a chicken filet from the Bad Motherclucker, added the dill pickles, and made it spicy. Undoubtedly one of the best chicken sandwiches ever, imo!

FORAGERS ON THE CREEK in SYLVA is a MUST stop, but bring your appetite and you will not be disappointed!!

By far this is some of the best food I’ve had at any establishment. The presentation of the food, the taste of the food and the pricing the food are all better than I expected. On top of that, sitting next to the creek in the quaint town of Sylva, North Carolina was so wonderful.

We enjoyed deviled eggs with a couple of cocktails, Whiskey Wrangler steak, steak taco rice bowl, and finish the evening off with a great berry tart for dessert.

I’m leaving this review because I can’t stop thinking about this great little place. It’s been a month since I’ve been at Foragers and I still want to try other things on the menu.

The only problem I have with this establishment is that I live in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York State…. ☹️. I guess I’ll be visiting my parents more often in North Carolina.

Foragers on the creek is amazing! This was our first time to the new location (previously Dillsboro) and it didn’t disappoint! The new location is very nice inside. We received great service, our food arrived promptly. The “high on the hog” cheese fries were to die for and the sweet potato tater tots are delicious! Also, Becca was our waitress, she was great!! We highly recommend this cute little spot!!

So good! The best were the prosciutto croquettes 5/5. Fried deviled eggs were good 4/5 and the steak bowl with potatoes were very good 4.5/5. I didn’t try the Brussel sprouts but my wife said they were very good.

Had an excellent lunch with the wife at Foragers Canteen. I had the blueberry bourbon trout fillet which was exceptional. My wife had the goat in the garden salad which she enjoyed.

Weather permitting, get a patio table overlooking the stream.

Our server “Caroline” was friendly and attentive. The food was delivered in a timely manner.

5 Stars!

We dropped in for an early dinner on a Thursday afternoon. We were seated on the deck overlooking the river. Peaceful and pleasant. Ordered Fish and chips and a bowl of shrimp and grits. Both were delicious. We each enjoyed a refreshing drink as well.

We had lunch on a Friday afternoon. They were a little busy, but we were able to get a great table on the deck overlooking the creek. The food was great! Someone in our party got a hamburger, another person got the fried chicken sandwich, and I got the shrimp over a corn mixture that was an appetizer but was plenty big for a meal. The Old Bay chips were amazing! Fresh, crispy, and were real potatoes! We had exceptional service and our food was served fairly quickly and was hot and fresh. Caroline, thanks so much for being so nice and giving us great service! We will be back.

I recently dined at Forgers and wanted to share my experience. One concern I have is the addition of a surcharge that was not disclosed beforehand. There also appears to be a credit card surcharge, which raises questions about transparency and pricing practices.
Regarding the food, I found several dishes to be either overly salty or oily, and some lacked distinct flavor. However, the deviled eggs were excellent, and the sandwich was satisfactory. I was disappointed to see that the Sylva Schooner is no longer available, as it was one of my favorites. On a positive note, the restaurant’s ambiance remains pleasant and inviting.
I have noticed that the entrée prices have increased, and overall, the menu has become quite expensive for the quality and simplicity of the dishes. This is unfortunate, as the food itself does not fully justify the higher cost.
While we will likely return, it will not be a frequent choice. Many of the menu items are easy to prepare at home, so Forgers is more of a convenient option for times when we prefer not to cook. Our takeout experiences have also been inconsistent—although we were told an order would be ready in 20 minutes, it was not available for pickup until around 40 minutes later.
Overall, Forgers is a satisfactory restaurant with a comfortable atmosphere and decent food, but the rising prices, undisclosed surcharges, and inconsistent service make it less appealing than it once was.
