The Dakota Inn is a fun restaurant.

Service was great! The food was just OK. Potato pancakes were not crispy. The Chicken Paprikash was very good but the accompanying green beans and spätzle were pretty basic. The cucumber salad was awesome. Pretzel was good. Schnitzel was OK, just needed some seasoning. The desserts were a hit. The strudel and brownie dish were better than the pązcki.

Overall this place is about the experience. People sing along with the piano player. There was a nice mix of traditional German music and 80s. Keep in mind that the restaurant is loud-great for a fun group night.

Also, there was a very nice security guard watching the fenced in parking lot. It’s a small lot but there is additional parking in the street.

The staff could not have exuded more kindness and wonderful service!
This historic German establishment has a bar in their basement filled with so many choices of wines to either drink on the premises or bottles to buy and take home.
The main floor is exceptionally lively with Jerry at the old piano playing a wide array German songs (sing along) as well as many requests for your favorite tunes. The main floor has bar and table seating.
This atmosphere is definitely for groups who love to laugh and have a good time!!

Singing along on Friday night was the most fun. The food is alright. Coming from an authentic German family, I give it a thumbs up. The staff was very friendly. It was pretty busy, the service was slightly slow, but it was worth it. A very fun night was had by all!

We once again had an awesome time last night at Oktoberfest! The staff are always so warm, welcoming, and super fun. Dakota Inn is somewhere that you can soak in all the history and traditions but just relax and have a great time! Such a Detroit gem. If you haven’t been recently, definitely head downstairs. It’s re-opened and so charming. We also loved being able to hang out in the back garden again too. I didn’t think there was anything that could be improved upon, but the new owner has done a fabulous job preserving everything that we all love but somehow making it even better. I’m so grateful that they are keeping this place that my grandparents loved alive for us and future generations to enjoy!

We should have given more thought to the negative reviews. The waitress who seated us was pleasant, and the pianist was doing a great job. However, those were the only positive aspects of our experience. Despite making a reservation a week in advance, the restaurant was barely half-full, and I don’t think a reservation was even necessary.

The service was terrible. Our server didn’t check on us, offer water refills, or even ask if we wanted another drink until much later in the meal. She did manage to step out of the restaurant twice in the 45 minutes we were there, presumably to take a break.

The food was absolutely abysmal. The potato pancake was soggy, and it arrived within minutes of ordering, if that’s any indication. The beets were bland and served in large chunks. The red cabbage was salty, and the vegan schnitzel was filled with oil or butter.

Overall, it was a complete disappointment. I strongly advise against dining at this restaurant.

Nice atmosphere. Service is very accommodating. But….prices way too high with small portions. What you are served is good, just left still hungry after spending top$$ for some sausage. My opinion. Worth 1 time experience though.

We didn’t eat dinner there because we needed a reservation but we enjoyed the festivities outside during Oktoberfest and ate some snacks from that outdoor menu!

I love this place. I even had my bachelor party here over 10 years ago. Just returned tonight for dinner and I’m saddened to report that the food was lousy and the beer was flat. I don’t know what changed but the owners really should take a trip to Germany and order some food. What I had here wasn’t good. The Schnitzel was thick and tough. Everything was cold. The Kasespatzle was super sad, plain noodles with some tasteless cheese wilted on top with no browning whatsoever. I’d say just come for beer and pretzels but both the beers I had were totally flat. It was a Friday night but I didn’t experience any sing along, the piano guy wasn’t playing anything I would describe as sounding German. The food I had is much better from the freezer section at Aldi.

The Dakota Inn is a fun and unique place to visit! The German food is delicious, the live sing-along music adds a lively atmosphere, and the decor—reminiscent of a Bavarian hunting lodge—creates a charming and cozy vibe. It’s a great spot for an enjoyable evening!

I always have an amazing time at the Dakota Inn! Perfect place to have authentic hardy German meal. The Bavarian pretzel is a MUST as an appetizer, and the apple strudel is delicious. Piano singer started at 7pm, and the staff were very friendly. Call a few days ahead to get reservations around the holidays. Will be frequenting this restaurant for years to come!
