D’Amato’s was slammed during my recent visit. It was the lunch rush during the holiday season, and D’Amato’s has so many delicious food on offer.

Despite it being busy, the staff was welcoming and efficient. The only inefficiency came from indecisive customers.

We came for sandwiches, Italian beef and tuna, but don’t miss out on their pizza too. Order it by the pie or the slice. You can carry out Italian classics too and of course their signature bread. Highly recommended.

I ordered a grilled chicken Cesar salad and specifically asked for fresh chicken as the last time I got this, the chicken was extremely dry. As if they gave me old chicken. I was shocked when I got today’s salad home and saw barely any chicken and the chicken that was there was extremely dry and old looking. The dressing also didn’t taste as it usually does. I’m writing this review as I even saw the guy that took my order ask the kitchen to make my chicken fresh and they obviously not. This salad is expensive. Not only did I not get much chicken for the price (this salad can usually last me two meals) I got old chicken despite my specific request. Very disappointed. Mostly croutons.

I went in on a Saturday afternoon. What amazing smells and staff. It looked like a long line but people behind counter were quick and smiles all around. The nice young lady who helped me was very helpful. And made sure I got what I was looking for. Even an Awesome t-shirt that I wore to work the next day. I’m a bartender and love spreading the word in how amazing this place is. This place has been a family staple long after we left area. So anytime I can get her Even if by train I will go. SUPPORT LOCAL places like this so we don’t lose them!

OMG-Been coming here for 30 years for bread and pizza but never had the subs. Kids brought a few different subs and each was better than the next. I still love Bari but the Chicken Caesar sub might be a top 5 sub any where. Highly recommend!!!!

Directions:

Walk into D’Amato’s

Stand with the million other people there trying to form some semblance of a line

Greet the seemingly rude but probably just overstimulated and direct staff member

Order the chicken Ceasar sandwich and the vodka chicken sandwich (if you’re alone its ok- nothing beats leftovers)

Order a lemon ricotta cookie and a headful of other yummy desserts- you know, for the road.

Take a seat in their very limited seating area or your car- the key is to eat these (particularly the vodka chicken) as soon as possible

Indulge in some of the greatest delicacies that are the D’Amato’s

The next day, thank yourself for the leftovers if you manage to keep any.

Dream about her for the next few days until you return.

Mission complete

Every great sandwich starts with great bread: crusty on the outside, soft and airy inside, sturdy enough to hold everything without getting soggy. Inside, layers of cured meats and cheese brought savoriness and richness while the hot giardiniera cut through them with its acidity and heat. It was delightfully messy but never sloppy. This is what I would call a perfect Italian sandwich: savory, fatty, tangy, and fresh.

To be honest, this was so good I had to write a review. The pizza bread is one of the best I’ve ever had, and it’s only $4 a slice. In this area, it’s impossible to find a deal like this. I also had the Italian sub with hot giardinaria and it was great ($9). Good portion and perfect spicy balance. I will 100% be back very soon. What a gem this place is.

Oakville is one of my favorite spots in Fulton Market. The space is beautiful and has a great atmosphere without feeling over the top. The food is consistently excellent — really fresh, well prepared, and the menu has a lot of great options whether you’re going for brunch, dinner, or drinks.

The service has always been friendly and attentive, and the whole place just feels very well run. It’s also in a great location in Fulton Market, so it’s an easy place to meet friends or grab a nice meal before going out.

Definitely one of the better restaurants in the neighborhood.
