I was disappointed by the amount of steak I received with my steak and shrimp, small little thing on my plate looked sad. It had an okay flavor. The other steak looked and tasted pre-prepped one side grilled and the other side soggy. I enjoyed the ice cream machine a lot and the salad bar. Try to get the cornbread it goes quickly.

First time ever going. My baked potato was perfect my steak was fine the shrimps was delicious. The salad bar was excellent that side bar with the supposed been broccoli and cheese soup but it was mushroom. The greens was a no for me, the rice was hard, macaroni and cheese no thank you. But overall the steak the baked potato, the shrimps and a salad was perfect.

An update to my Mattson’s post from a few years ago – I returned this afternoon for the lunch special.
Chicken Fried Steak….
I must say everything was clean, food was hot and tasty and the service personnel were all very friendly. The tall gentleman even brought me napkins when I asked where they were located. He pointed, I thanked him and literally a minute later dropped them off. People must return used salad plate to be given a new one – I’m assuming people were taking advantage of the buffet without paying. Atleast there are signs now – I was pleasantly surprised; compared to my last visit.
I was taken back to when I’d go with my family as a child. I’m glad I gave it another chance.

This is a mom and pop steak house. Don’t come here if you are expecting luxurious fine dining experience. This is no what this place is about. This place is about hearty delicious home cooking. The steak was jucy, Smoky and perfectly cooked. The hot bar has collard greens, Mac and cheese, two types of soup and a beautiful salad bar. The prices are low for such a delicious filling meal. Highly recommend.

Not what it use to be. Customer service was horrible, outside of one guy who was ironically on his first day. He was the bright spot in our experience. They couldn’t get the food right. What’s the point in asking how I want my steak if they’re going to cook it how they want. My sister in law order chicken, which took forever! But, when she finally got the food, the chicken wasn’t cooked thoroughly.. it’s safe to say we won’t be returning.

Sunday 6/16 Father’s Day, line out the door. Cashier walks away and someone yell, it’s 20 wait to catch up. Didn’t say anything to customers waiting line 90 degrees. Cashier came back to register

Oh, just have a seat, get to table and its dirty, I ask the young man could he clean the table and he said yes, we waited with trays in hand with kids, he never came back. My son had to go get someone. When I asked him what happen the young lady yelled out that he was not a bus boy, he should have told us that and sent us the bus boy. Steak was ok, mushrooms straight out the can with the same liquid from the can, salad dressing had no labels and people were sticking their finger in dressing to taste and they were watered down. NEED TO DO BETTER!

I guess this location depends on your experience. Either you like it or you don’t. I do agree that this place was way better a long time ago. I still come here because I have that childhood connection to it.
Today’s experience was alright. It was a Friday evening and the place was a bit busy. About a 15 minute wait in line to pay. Plenty of seats around 6pm, but filled up quickly once 7pm hits.
The salad bar was a bit minimal this time. Half of the items are out and I didn’t really see a person check to refill the area. Maybe once when I was dining.
This steakhouse is not for everyone. It’s mid tier quality. Again, I’m just here because I felt like it. If you want better quality, I recommend the Longhorn Steakhouse that’s 10 minutes away.
Probably my favorite item here is the Texas toast. The steak and the baked potato were okay. Looks like they downgraded their cups. Just regular paper cups. They used to have the collectable Mattson’s glass cups way back then. I miss those.
If I wasn’t a regular here, my score would probably be way lower. There’s a lot of things that need to improve here like the workers need to be more welcoming rather than “I’m just here”. Or actively checking the salad bar areas to make sure things are full consistently.
I do want this place to continue, but it needs to step it up a lot.

Unassuming and friendly Western-themed steakhouse. The staff is nice and the drinks are stiff. Don’t come here expecting the Ritz, but do come here expecting a relaxed good time where you’re treated like family from the minute you walk in the door.
