I saw some Caesar salad on the way in and decided I wanted that. I ordered the chicken Marsala as my main.
They brought out the focaccia fast. It was warm and dripping with oil. The oil/vinegar mix was not cooperating with me. I could barely get any balsamic in my bread and I needed that acid to cut through the fat. Even after trying to stir it. I think it would work better in separate vessels.
The salad was a big let down for me. The large Parmesan shavings were 100% bland. They had no flavour whatsoever. The salad had less dressing than I’d prefer and the bitterness of the romaine came through dominant. I actually ended up adding salt to it to try and enhance some flavour.
The chicken marsala also was lacking seasoning. It was quite rich. The pasta didn’t taste like it was cooked in salt water. The chicken wasn’t dry (phew), but when tasted on its own it had no flavour. The sauce on the plate was decent, but I found I had to make sure I had ample sauce or the bite wasn’t favourable. The mushrooms actually were seasoned. I hunted those down and tried to pair them with the other bites.
The grilled veggies had flavour but only because of the veggies. There was olive oil on them I think, but no seasoning that I could discern.
I finally gave in and added salt to my whole plate. It was better, but I was sad for such an expensive Italian meal.
While in town and staying at a local hotel, I inquired with staff about good local pizza. One of the front desk staff (Italian/former NYC resident) immediately and enthusiastically recommended Babymoon Cafe.
I visited the well designed website and noticed an array of enticing options. I easily scrolled down and ordered a large pizza.
The pizza was outstanding! The crust alone was very tasty while the sauce is well beyond what you’ll find in the typical pizza. The Remaining ingredients were fresh and tasty.
I was pleasantly surprised to have the option of delivery without paying the sometimes excessive Uber Eats rates. The delivery staff was very friendly and provided plates and silverware without me having made the request.
Overall, a great experience. I’ll be returning to the area in the coming months and look forward to trying additional menu options.
Good: Focaccia bread was soft, fresh baked, and served with balsamic vinegar in olive oil. Calamari was good, but some rings clumped together. Bolognese sauce was delicious!
Could be better: The raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing was too artificial and also had too much dressing, and chicken was dry. Lasagna had way too much tomato sauce.
Overall, would dine here again and get spaghetti bolognese.
