Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Southside, and I must say, it was a seafood extravaganza that left my taste buds dancing! This market and restaurant combo is a true gem for seafood enthusiasts, and I had the chance to savor some of their finest offerings.
1. Snow Crab Legs: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The snow crab legs at Southside were nothing short of spectacular. They were perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and seasoned just right. Each bite was a burst of sweet and briny flavor, making these crab legs an absolute must-try.
2. Lobster Roll: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The lobster roll here was a work of art. The buttery, toasted roll was generously filled with succulent lobster meat, lightly dressed with a delicate sauce that allowed the lobster’s natural sweetness to shine through. It was a heavenly indulgence.
3. Crispy Fries: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Southside knows how to do fries justice. Their crispy fries were the perfect sidekick to the seafood delights. Golden, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside, these fries were the ideal complement to the seafood dishes.
4. Fresh Clams: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The fresh clams at Southside were a delightful surprise. Served steamed and seasoned to perfection, they were tender and flavorful. The natural brininess of the clams was balanced beautifully, making them a fantastic appetizer or side dish.
5. Oysters: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The oysters were a true highlight of the meal. Served on a bed of ice, they were incredibly fresh and tasted like they were just plucked from the sea. They were briny, with a clean finish that left me craving for more.
In addition to the outstanding food, Southside Fish and Clam’s atmosphere was cozy, and the service was attentive. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and happy to provide recommendations.
If you’re a seafood lover, Southside is a must-visit destination. With their top-notch snow crab legs, lobster rolls, crispy fries, fresh clams, and oysters, you’re in for a seafood feast that’s bound to leave a lasting impression. I can’t wait to return for another unforgettable dining experience!
Fresh fish cooked to order is what Southside has been doing since 1934! This clearly passes the test of time!
Order your meal, get a table, wait for your order# to be called, to go back up to the counter and get your meal to bring it to your table, and Enjoy. Clams, shrimp, crabs, scallops, flounder, sword fish, tuna , salmon and Lobsters, etc.
Southside has so many choices so if you want it they probably have it. The fried shrimp is one of our favorites, the baked clams, and stuffed flounder are just so fresh we always enjoy whatever we get. The counter service is great but not the service you could get at a full service restaurant, so keep that in mind. As is the atmosphere, kinda like a “snack bar” feeling, so if you know this going in you’ll enjoy whatever fresh fish meal you ordered!
The idea of ordering and finding your own table is novel, but the food was just okay. The fish and chips were overly breaded and a bit greasy and the clam strips had the same feel. The fries taste institutional and nothing that stands out.
I don’t mind the older decor, as a matter of fact I find it charming; in a land of snootiness, but they could still use a major renovation in the same style without losing its character.
They would have earned three stars, but we had to ask for tartar sauce- despite two orders of fish and chips; they forgot our sides of corn, and forgot to give us a side of garlic bread.
All in all, I know this place is a local landmark and you should go to experience it, but the food; at least on the day we went was mediocre.
