I visited Rusty Hooks for the chili cook-off fundraiser for Special Olympics. We had fun at the event, the restaurant staff was very accommodating and friendly, and even with all the people coming and going the restaurant staff kept it clean. Our server at the bar was super nice and was very attentive when we needed another beer or wine. I will definitely be back to try items off the food menu.

I came for the crab cakes and I was not disappointed. Definitely more crab than cake. Delicious to the last bite!!
I also had the oysters Rockefeller and the crab soup. The oysters were fresh and tasty and the crab soup was thick and creamy.
Everything was perfect and the service was so attentive from the minute we walked up to the door (someone was there to open the door) and our server Ryan took exception care of us by promptly greeting us and serving our food hot.
Definitely a great place to frequent!!

Family Dinner before Christmas at a new place for me after 10 plus years of coming to Oak Island and Southport! Highly recommend. The staff was incredible. Our waiter Michael navigated the needs of 7 adults and 2 children like a true professional. Truly impressed with his customer service and knowledge of the menu. I had the Cajun Shrimp Pasta, which was incredible. Just the right amount of heat. Initially thought id need a box but finished the whole dish including the bread. Don’t feel guilty at all about it lol. Hoping to come back in the summer to experience this place again. Crab cage Christmas Tree outside was a great picture opportunity during the holiday. Secret gem right between Oak Island and Southport. Will be back on the next trip down here in July!!!

Food was good. They were good at accommodating w food allergies etc.
I had Burger n fries. They were fine but would like to try other food to make better decision as Burger n fries were decent. Prices are a Lil spendy could be a Lil better on that but not the worst prices but a few changes on some items esp like Burger n fries could be Lil less & add few more fries to the portions.
The view was Beautiful & the atmosphere n server were Awesome!
A guy plays live music on Sunday evenings & he was enjoyable:).

We had such a great first experience at Rusty Hook! Our waitress/bartender (I believe her name was Jessica) was absolutely delightful. From the start she made us feel welcome and took the time to tell us about the secret menu, which we’re so glad she did because the castaways was delicious.
The soup and snow-crab mac n cheese were a solid 10/10, and the drinks Jessica made were fantastic. Her service really made the experience even better — friendly, attentive, and just overall wonderful.
We had a great time and will definitely be back! Highly recommend asking for Jessica if you visit.

Coastal dreaming and tongue slapping is this cream of crab soup. This is why food memories marinate in your mind. One spoonful and you’re engulfed with a bowl that feels like a warm seaside hug. Rich and silky texture that lets every drop (and crab pieces) cling to your spoon. The crab is generous, sweet, and unmistakably fresh, briny joy.
What I loved most was how the seasoning danced with cream without being heavy. Flavorful with a whisper of the sea that never got fishy or overdone. Pair it with the side of bread that has to be ordered separately.

Our favorite local hangout! Great food, cold beer & cocktails (Mango Cart! ) Lots of music on the big deck all summer, so nice watching sunsets and boats go by on the ICW. We also enjoyed New Years Eve here with heaters out by the Tiki Bar. Also a fun place to watch the flotilla go by at Christmas time. Fun vibes friendly staff

Dinner with 8 friends, I had the crusted flounder and blueberry cheesecake. It was amazing. Everyone had great food and drinks. Our server Michael and Brian were phenomenal. They have great voices that were easy to hear even though our group was maybe a bit noisy. They knew everything and got everything correct. An amazing night.

There is no denying that the food is great but we experienced the worst service. We sat at the outside tiki bar. The bartender was awful. We asked for the drinks we wanted. Instead of him making what we ordered, he wanted us to change it to margaritas. Maybe they were easier? He did finally make the drinks we ordered but we had finished them well before our food arrived. It wasn’t busy but we waited and waited for him to make us more drinks, nope…. we ate most of our meal without a drink. We just paid our bill and left.

What a great experience! Wonderful staff and manager. We came in with 13 and they got us seated as soon as we were all there. Brian the manager was as accommodating as could be. Our server Cody was amazing. The fish was perfectly cooked and when one of the kids accidentally ordered the burger medium rare they took care of it right away and didn’t charge us at all for the food. I would highly recommend this restaurant with sweeping views of the marina of the intarcoastal waterway. If you’re looking for a family friendly restaurant with good local fresh fish and oyster shooters look no further. All food allergies and dietary restrictions were accommodated with ease and a smile.
