My husband looked at the pictures and said, “This is the one.” Any restaurant that welcomes our dog automatically receives five stars in our hearts.
We sat outside while Rambo announced to every passing dog that this was his territory, his restaurant, and his sidewalk. I smiled and apologized to strangers like a customer service representative for the canine department.
Inside, the restaurant was beautifully decorated with an intense smell of incense. Immediately I was transported back to my kung fu competition days, when our teacher burned incense and we all felt very spiritual and very dangerous at the same time — until someone had to do push-ups.
The music was loud, but outside there was a little more peace. I am in my quiet-season era of life. As the Bible says:
“Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.” – Proverbs 17:1
So I chose quiet… and food.
I decided to be brave and ordered a traditional dish I had never tried before: Cuban picadillo.
I also wanted ham croquettes, but they only came in an order of six. My husband eats like a bird, and I did not want to enter into a croquette commitment alone before even meeting my main dish. That is a serious relationship.
So I ordered three empanadas instead…
…not knowing they were the size of small pillows.
At that moment I understood another spiritual truth:
“The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” – Matthew 26:41
Especially when the empanadas arrive first.
But everything was delicious, the breeze was soft, Rambo finally accepted that not every dog is his enemy, and once again the Lord provided food, shade, and a place to rest in the middle of the journey.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” – Psalm 23:1
Leah, our waitress, was very cordial and attentive, and our food arrived in perfect timing
My Cuban picadillo was very good, full of flavor and comforting. The portion was generous, so I saved the ground meat that was left. Later I will mix it with spaghetti for my husband — Cuban-Italian fusion created in an Airbnb kitchen. Food ministry never stops.
The three empanadas I ordered were delicious, but as an appetizer they were giants. At that moment I realized they were not an appetizer — they were a life decision. So I took some home, because wisdom is also biblical.
“The wise store up choice food and olive oil.” – Proverbs 21:20
My husband ordered grilled fish with salad — his faithful, healthy choice. He loves his fish in every nation and every language. If fish were a love language, that would be his. He said this fish was cooked perfectly andlove the salad too !
The coffee and cappuccino were excellent, and while we were finishing, I saw little birds bathing in a nearby fountain. That peaceful moment felt like a small gift from God in the middle of our travel day.
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap… and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” – Matthew 6:26
They were bathing, we were eating, Rambo was finally calm, and everything felt right.
We truly enjoyed our time there — good service, good food, outdoor seating for our furry security guard, and a quiet reminder that even on a moving day, the Lord gives us small places to rest.
I had the fish, which was very tasty and I recommend it. Also the sweet plantain was very good as a side. However the regular beans and rice lacked flavor.
My husband had one of the Cuban sandwiches, #2 on the menu, based on the picture. But the bread, he said, was just meh. The pork and pickles were good, but there was too much ham. He ate half. The chips that come with it were probably store bought and tiny, so difficult to eat. It was also dry. The only juice was the pickles.
So the experience was mixed. I do recommend the fish plate, as it was cooked well and had a nice green sauce.
It’s too bad. My husband had looked forward to this and was disappointed.
Also, it’s not their fault, but while eating outside I was bit by an ant.
Overall you should stop in and try out this place.
Of it comes out at the same time. But that was not the case with us! Extremely enjoyable experience.
