Awesome service and atmosphere. Our food came out quickly. Plenty of coffee refills. Definitely an iconic Midwestern family restaurant. My only complaint is that my scrambled eggs were a little runny. No substitutions. Also, prices are unreasonably high. $3.89 for a side of toast? Are you getting the whole loaf?

I am (was) a regular patron. I average probably 2 meals a week there year around. The staff knows me. I tip well. I consider a few of the servers as friends. The food is mediocre with the weirdest vegetable combinations anywhere-but no substitutions. The reason I am a regular is because the server staff is so friendly and the fact that the restaurant is open until 9p.m. EVERY DAY!
Tonight I drive the 10 miles to get there. I arrive at 8:13 pm eager for supper. Lights are on. A few people are inside eating BUT THE DOORS ARE LOCKED 45 minutes before closing. I rattle the door and then walk in front of the window. A staff person notices me. From outside I pantomime:”what’s going on; why are the doors locked?!” Someone opens the door and says they are closing early because it’s cold out. Go figure! It’s 10 degrees in January in the Midwest! It’s warm inside the restaurant! Wasted trip! Advertised hours aren’t honored. Fine. Customer lost! I will go back north to Beloit and eat at Neil’s or the truck stop.

It has been years since I’ve eaten here and I’m glad that Covid did not change the place. Quaint, family oriented, lots of options, and reasonable prices. Very much enjoyed being there today.
Pros: open, friendly place with good portions and lots of options. They even have a good vegetarian (not vegan) options including a florentine Benedict. So yummy.
Price is good too.
Cons: can’t really think of any.
2 breakfast meals with a side, hot tea, hot chocolate, and 4 desserts to go total $50. Impressive.

Really great diner! Cute and cozy, with helpful friendly staff all around. Triple B Burger was cooked perfectly and all ingredients seemed fresh and of good quality. French onion soup is practically perfect.

Delicious, friendly service. I would go w specials which are generous portions plus come with soup or salad, entree, plus pudding. Soup was out of this world!
I would avoid the salad add on since at $4.39 (came with no tomatoes), it’s not a good deal. Will repeat when in the area again.

I have been to Sophia’s restaurant in the past and was very satisfied with the service and the food. However this time I was not impressed. I ordered the hot beef mashed potatoes and carrots. I also ordered the same dinner to go. The party is was with wanted to pay for my meal but I said no. As the waitress took my order I added on to desserts. And then she makes a comment to one of the people in my party asking them “see aren’t you glad you aren’t paying for the entire check?” The waitress never brought the carrots with my meal because said she wrote it down wrong. However she did offer to bring me some I said no thank you. She brought everybody else’s drink out first and mine last. Also she never came back to check on us to see if we needed anything more or if we wanted refills for our drinks. I was impressed with the food. It was shredded beef like lunch meat. My expectations for too high. I will say that the desserts were delicious. And that was pretty much it.

It’s been years (close to 10+) since I’ve been to Sophia’s and on a whim we decided to go. Little has changed, which isn’t a bad thing. Very much a mom and pop type of place. Service was good, the food was like we remembered. Prices were a little more then we expected but with the current economical climate, it’s understandable.
Would seriously recommend this place for a decently priced breakfast that tastes like home.

This was our first time here and I will definitely be going back. Our breakfast was hot and fresh. Biscuits and gravy were amazing. First time I have seen my kids eat everything on their plate in a long time. We definitely be back.

We’ve come many times and have always had a good experience. We brought an out of town family member for lunch. Waitress Maria J was not good. Very curt and appeared rushed. Didn’t ask if we wanted drinks. When my husband asked for a drink she forgot to bring it. She took our friend’s soup dish with her bread still on it. Food was great but service was poor.
