I’ve been visiting here since 1992 when it opened and I studied at UF. Still delicious!

Great place to eat. Is decently priced. There is a variety of foods you can get. The atmosphere is really nice with the seating being a covered outdoor area.

First time I have tried this place and was not disappointed. I ordered the 2 traditional beef taco combo. The food came out hot and fast and for a pretty fair price. The tacos were great and same for the rice and beans. The seasonings were good but I could have added a little more salt for my taste. I’ll be back soon to try a burrito next.
Came back and got the carne asada burrito and it was exactly what I was hoping it would be.

OK, these folks STILL have the best breakfast burritos in town. No shade against the other places but so far this place still is king. Get the chorizo breakfast burrito with salsa Verde for the win. It won’t change your life, but it certainly won’t hurt. It’s a family favorite. The folks there are super friendly and the service always good.
Highly recommend them, either Gville location

For the best authentic Mexican food in town, hands down I will ALWAYS choose El Indio. Their service is always with a smile. Their food always taste the same and their prices are always affordable.

Never disappoints, I’ve had great experiences at both locations. Love that they have classic Mexican food, but I can still get fries and a killer milkshake there.

Meat was pretty good…..we got all 3 varieties of street tacos. The tortillas all fell apart….and didnt taste as authentic as some other other taco places ive tried, but overall good tacos and good experience. We got the 3 tacos for $9.99. No complaints teally except for the tortillas. It could have been a little cheaper for that.

I did drive up and I ordered 1 item. But I don’t understand why it asked me to tip? This was a togo item. I did not eat at the restaurant. I left in my car. I think this was a bit much to put on the to expect the college students to tip. Since that is mostly who goes to this location. I don’t think I will be back. I felt very uneasy about this.

Excellent Huevos Rancheros and breakfast tacos. Service is great and the Krispy Kreme is across the way. Can’t beat this.

El Indio is hands down one of the best spots in Gainesville for authentic Mexican food. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a casual meal, this place never disappoints. Their street tacos are the real deal—simple, flavorful, and packed with quality ingredients.
I highly recommend trying their beef tongue (lengua), carne asada, al pastor, and carnitas tacos. The beef tongue is incredibly tender and melts in your mouth, while the carne asada has that perfect char-grilled flavor. The al pastor is seasoned beautifully with just the right amount of spice and sweetness, and the carnitas are crispy on the edges yet juicy inside. Pair them with fresh cilantro, onions, and a squeeze of lime, and you’re in for an unbeatable taco experience.
Beyond the food, the service is always fast and friendly, and their prices are more than reasonable for the quality you get. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Mexican food or trying street tacos for the first time, El Indio is a must-visit.
