Chef Yu serves up deliciously spicy dishes at his namesake restaurant in the Garment District. His specialties are the Beef Tendon and marinated beef with hot pepper sauce, but that doesn’t mean all Yu’s dishes aren’t standouts! Not only are they delicious, but they are inexpensive. In fact, the lunch specials exceed fifteen meal options all under $8. You can avoid the lunch time rush at Chef Yu by placing your order online. The 8th Avenue restaurant fills quickly with this Chinese restaurant’s regulars, particularly those that work nearby.
Traditional Chinese dishes by the namesake chef are served in a modern, airy 2-story space.

The lady at the desk was welcoming and let us order to go. The service was fast and they treated us very well. The food we got was better than usual Chinese food. We had chicken fried rice, vegetable pan fried dumplings and the jellyfish. I have to say that the fried rice was a huge hit. My 3 yr old is so picky with rice and he literally shoveled this rice in. The flavor was amazing. The jellyfish was also the most amazing I’ve ever had. When I get jellyfish other places it’s usually either super chewy or crunchy and the flavors usually lack. This place had jellyfish with a slight crunch but still very chewable and the flavor was the most amazing (scallion and sesame). Most people will see jellyfish and be scared away, but this place has the best. If you’re ever going to try it, literally this place is where you start. Next time I come to the city I’m bringing my whole family to this place. Thank you for the most delicious meal and making my child so happy that he was full and was a happy boy the whole train ride home.

This is not authentic Chinese food. At best, it should be labeled American Chinese–style, but the restaurant claims it is Sichuan cuisine, which is misleading.
Please do not call this dish 鱼香肉丝 just because it contains pork and garlic. That alone does not define the dish. What was served looks nothing like real 鱼香肉丝—the chef clearly has never seen or understood what this classic dish actually is.
As a Chinese customer, this is genuinely upsetting. It feels disrespectful to the culture—like putting durian and pineapple on pizza, or cutting spaghetti with scissors, and still calling it authentic Italian food.
If you want to serve Americanized Chinese food, that’s fine—but please don’t misrepresent it as traditional Sichuan cuisine.

The ambience of this restaurant is very nice and the service is great. There are two levels offering various seating options including a large, private dining area on the second floor. The menu is extensive and they have a full bar. I enjoyed my meal (spring rolls and chicken with cashews) and drink (an old-fashioned) but I have to say that the quality of the food didn’t match the vibe of the restaurant as a whole which surprised me. It was tasty, fresh, very hot and left me satisfied, but I was expecting something with bigger pieces of chicken or large roasted cashews, a more exciting sauce, etc. I would eat here again and hopefully I’ll get the ‘wow’ factor next time.

Outstanding food! We ordered Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and Sliced Chicken and Broccoli to share. They were delicious. Rich flavour on the soup and chicken was tender and broccoli was cooked perfectly! Service was friendly and fast. Cheap booze too

It might be a Huaiyang or Shanghai style restaurant. The dishes from that region were cooked well and delicious. The Sichuan style dishes we ordered were cooked with good effort and tasty, but not in typical Sichuan flavor. If I go again, I will ask the waiter what are the specialty of the chefs and skip the Sichuan dishes.
Overall, it was an authentic Chinese restaurant and we had a good hearty lunch.

The food was delicious and quite a good price for the location. The dumplings in chili oil were fantastic, although not spicy at all. The chow fun with pork was perfectly cooked – the pork was tender the bok choy was still crispy, but it also lacked any spice. The happy hour cocktails were solid and for $8, the Manhattan was as good as any $17 Manhattan anywhere in the city. The place was quiet and comfortable.

The food was ok , I gave less stars because the scallion pancakes were very oily .
We ordered calamari and it was ok .
The main courses weren’t too hot but still was ok .
We liked that the waiters were nice and the restaurant was very quiet which was perfect for our meeting so I’d recommend this place for people who need to discuss something.

Chef Yu is among my favorite quick order online, pick up, then back at my desk fast options. My favorite is the Chicken/Pineapple fried rice with cashews. Chef Yu gives huge portions of this for a very fair price.

The duck from the BBQ menu was not really tasty.. The skin was slightly tough and hard to cut. The meat was very oily, I guess that‘s their style of cooking. But the Phad Thai was oily which is not the case in Thailand. It was nothing really exciting, the waiter told us that it is with bones. So no blame to them, it was just not what we has expected to get served

First thing I noticed when I walked into the restaurant was how spacious it was. The tables are spaced out nicely and allowed for adequate room for each guest at the table. This restaurant serves food family style so everyone at the table had a fun experience spinning the center piece of the table to try a little of every dish. My personal favorites were the szechuan oil wontons and spicy diced chicken. The flavors of both of these dishes were on another level! They had depth and were very delicious. The flavors of the all of the food were authentic and delicious! Definitely one of my favorite chinese food spots in the city now and the lemon sorbet dessert was the perfect balance of refreshing and sour to end off the meal. Overall great experience fast and attentive service and I will definitely be coming back!
