if your looking for food that tastes good, then come here. but if your looking for dishes that matches its title then uhhh idk
their mentaiko pasta tasted SO GOOD. the onions were fragrant and sweet, enveloping the creamy sauce that coats the udon. its not so overly creamy and its flavor just punches ur taste buds. however what i taste is onions and not mentaiko so if you want mentaiko idk dude. it lowk tastes like chinese stir fry udon but its yummy so 4/5
next is their hayashi rice which tastes EXACTLY like egg tomato rice that we eat as chinese ppl but its 3 times sweeter than usual. while the flavor was there it didnt taste like hayashi rice. 3/5
overall 3.8/5

We were badly craving for Saba Saikyo Yaki (marinated mackarel), unfortunately they didn’t have any that day. Ended up trying their lunch gozens: tempura and ginger beef. We were hoping for more variety of the sides and more gingery taste for the beef. I also found hair in my miso. Nonetheless, service was quick and our server was really nice. The space is good for solo and groups as it is big, just a little more on the dim side.

Bonus pics: roll, tonkatsu and saba from our first visit

Coming to Victoria for work, I only knew 2 things: the people are super friendly, and the fish is amazing.

That couldn’t be more true for Sen Zushi. I came for dinner twice in a row and sat at the counter eating copious amounts of nigiri. It brought back warm memories of doing the same thing in Japan. My standout was aburi toro nigiri.

Best meal I had in Victoria! Would defintely become a regular if I lived here.

The food was delicious, I especially enjoyed the teriyaki chicken and sushi. The croquettes were also super tasty! The included green tea was also very nice. Everything we ordered came out quickly. Service was good.

My only complaint is that the restaurant was borderline uncomfortably warm when we were there, not sure if this is typical.

Sen Zushi has been a long-time favourite of mine. They have a large variety of Japanese food on offer and do not skimp on quality.

The sushi here is fantastic, in my opinion. The sushi rice is nicely seasoned and the fish is well handled. I think their nigiri is a testament to this, and that the chirashi don is a worthwhile splurge.

For further reccomendations… the croquettes, grilled fish, seafood yaki udon, and tempura are all delicious. The first two remind me of my time in Japan! I also highly suggest the lunch bento boxes. They provide a good variety of options in one meal, and are filling without leaving you with that uncomfortable “too full” feeling.

I think Sen Zushi is fairly priced given its quality and variety of options. You can easily eat a meal here for $20 a person, though you can expect to pay closer to $30-50 each if you plan to get your fill of quality nigiri and sushi. Add another $20 each if doing drinks and dessert. Sen Zushi is definitely not the cheapest sushi spot in Victoria, but if cheap is what you are after, then there are plenty of lesser-quality sushi spots around the city to fit the bill.

I highly reccomend taking a picture of the special board when you walk in. It changes from time to time based on what ingredients are available. There is often rotating seasonal fish for nigiri and sashimi, unique dishes, and some great desserts. I loved the matcha churros!

One of our favourite Japanese restaurants in downtown Victoria. Authentic Japanese cuisine. We love their sushi and sashimi and tempura, always delicious Their tempura and combos are tasty too. Portions are also generous. We simply love the atmosphere, especially when enjoying a little cup of sake and chat with friends. A great place to have gatherings. Booking recommended, especially at weekends.

If there was one word I could describe about this place, it would be “Godly.”. When me and my parents went here, the waiters welcomed us very kindly, already looking for a spot for us. We were sat down, and we already had our menus waiting on the table. I ordered the bento box, and my parents also ordered. The atmosphere was like you were in a traditional Japanese restaurant. The food did take some time, but that is reasonable, since there were many customers. When I got my order, the box was very big, filled with food and sauces. I was already eating it, and it was so good! The bill was a bit expensive, but it is very worth it. This is the best Japanese restaurant in the area.

It’s a good Japanese food place in Victoria. Love the vibe and atmosphere. Service was great but a bit slow which was understandable since they were super busy.
The main dishes and sushi rolls are okay. Special rolls are really good there were no sits available so we sat at the sushi bar. But it was okay since the bar table was bigger than normal.
overall a 4.5 experience and recommended

I lived in Victoria 16 years ago as a teenager. Back then, I thought that Sen Zushi was the BEST restaurant in Victoria; it was where went when I was graduating high school and where I treated my friends to a meal when I won a prize at school.

Fast forward to 2025 and I’m finally back in Victoria for the first time in almost 12 years. I knew I had to go back to Sen Zushi because it loomed so large in my memory. I popped in for a late lunch on a Saturday and got a bento box.

I was not disappointed! Everything came flooding back as I ate my delicious bento. The tempura was perfectly cooked and the atmosphere was really top notch. I am so happy to see the business continuing to thrive after all these years. I hope to be back!
