Went as a big group 12 of us to be exact. They accommodated all of us in a fast manner. 2 of my family members got Chicken and Waffles. The waffles were dry though so my family didn’t enjoy them. The chilaquiles were enjoyable. I asked for over easy eggs and it was delicious.

We tried the fresh start breakfast and the chicken fried steak. The food tasted great. The service was slow but they were very busy. Just make sure you aren’t in a hurry when you go but they were worth the wait.

There’s something special about places that feel like the heartbeat of a community, and for me that place is Alto Cafe.
In fact, this was technically the first restaurant I ever ate at after moving to Ruidoso, and it still feels just as welcoming today as it did that first morning. There’s a warmth here that’s hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it—locals catching up over coffee, contractors and construction crews grabbing breakfast before heading out to work, and neighbors sharing stories like they’ve known each other for years.
And let’s talk about the food… the biscuits and gravy are the real deal. The kind of breakfast that makes you slow down for a minute, sip your coffee, and appreciate the mountain morning.
As a local real estate broker working between Ruidoso and Alto, I’m often running from property showings to meetings with buyers and sellers, and Alto Cafe has become one of those perfect in-between stops. It’s a place where you can refuel, visit with folks from the community, and sometimes even run into clients or friends you haven’t seen in a while.
Places like this are part of what makes living in this area so special. If you’re visiting, house hunting, or lucky enough to call Ruidoso or Alto home, make sure you stop in for breakfast. You’ll leave full, caffeinated, and probably feeling like you just spent the morning with friends.
Grateful to have spots like this that keep the community connected.

This place is super delicious and friendly! Also, the prices are really reasonable and the menu is truly epic these days. I personally love the smothered green chile burrito and my wife loves the French toast and my kiddo loves the pancakes. Also, what’s new for this year that didn’t used to be there for years is a bakery window that has all sorts of amazing looking muffins and pies and cheesecakes and dulce de leche and so much more. Thanks!

This is an excellent place to eat. The breakfast was exceptional. It is one of the rare restaurants that has gluten-free bread and muffins. Everyone in our group who ate regular bread commented on the excellent food snd service. Make sure you come here if you are in Ruidoso.

Have always noticed they seem to have good crowds driving by but am always on the way someplace. Today had time to try and was very pleased. Had a cup of the green chile stew. It’s a hamburger based version that really hit the spot. My wife had a the one egg breakfast with bacon. Nothing exotic but each of the items were spot on. Bacon crisp and delicious, hash browns extra crisp and an over easy egg cooked perfectly. Will be back sooner than later to sample the pastry items. The ones in the case looked fantastic.
