I now understand why they call it soul food! the food at Mama Sheila’s is absolutely amazing! I’m a person that does not like brussel sprouts, however, I did order them from there and they melted in my mouth and were absolutely amazing. There is not a single thing there that doesn’t make your mouth water and heart happy, highly recommended restaurant definitely will be returning.

Was in town for a bit and decided to try their food. I must admit everything I added on my plate was delicious. I had the mac&cheese, yams, greens, bbq chicken, jerk chicken and a slice of meat loaf. (Enough for 2) and my only complaint was my Mac wasn’t in it’s on compartment so it got all the sauces. But the food itself was really good. And at $10 per pound I wasn’t disappointed. Not to mention it was maybe 20 minutes before closing and the guy working was super helpful and polite. I’ll definitely be returning next time I’m in Minnesota. Overall Great place!

This Thanksgiving, my heart found exactly what it needed: time with my soul cousin, deep conversation about life, and the gentle release of everything no longer serving us. We spent the day reflecting, laughing, and just being present with each other. And the perfect place to hold all that gratitude was Mama Sheila’s.
From the moment we walked in, the buffet felt like a true Thanksgiving embrace. Mama Sheila’s served up love disguised as food. Cranberry sauce, potato salad, collard greens with smoked turkey, tender cabbage, dressing with no meat, juicy turkey, candied yams, red beans and rice, jerk chicken, jerk BBQ chicken, cornbread, catfish, BBQ meatballs… and honestly, even more dishes I can’t fully recall because there was just so much goodness. Every plate was a memory, every bite a comfort. And those homemade beverages? They danced on my taste buds refreshing, sweet, and full of soul.
I ate there, enjoyed every moment, and of course had to take a plate to go. It was that good.
This Thanksgiving wasn’t just a meal it was healing, connection, and gratitude wrapped in the warmth of family and incredible food. Mama Sheila’s helped make it unforgettable.

I am going to try to sum this up without wasting your time. GO EAT HERE.
I sincerely hope that summed it up. Here’s why; We were greeted by a very friendly man. Once we explained that we were visiting from Ohio, he quickly explained the pricing and order of things. He went over the menu and answered any questions we had. Bet
Pricing was $10.95 per pound. It’s set up buffet style but not an all you can eat for a set price buffet type thing. Y’all, everything looked good. I wanted a Lil bit of everything. So here’s the options that I can remember: fried chicken, jerk chicken, smothered chicken, BBQ chicken, meatloaf, and catfish. My husband was shocked there were no ribs and they told him no swine on the line Side items consist of mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, cabbage, green beans, black eye peas, greens, candy yams, red beans and rice, and probably a few other items I can’t remember. Cornbread was the only (and rightfully so) bread item!
Ok I had the BBQ chicken which was amazing. The meat was just falling off the bones. My side items were cabbage, green beans, mac-n-cheese, and candied yams. The cabbage and green beans were the star of the show. Omg so good Like, sooooo good. Every single bite had seasoning in it. It was a win-win situation here. The mac-n-cheese was good. Not the best I’ve had but still good enough to make me happy The only downfall was the candied yams. They just weren’t good. Everything else was so good, I didn’t even care. I was full on top of full. I was soul food wasted!
I ordered a slice of red velvet cake to go. I haven’t eaten it yet. I’m excited tho.
The atmosphere: classic African American owned esthetics. Walls covered in famous and historical African Americans while also giving you a little bit of important history about each one. The music playing in the background was old school R&B Perfect sounds and surroundings for a perfect meal.

Some of the best food I’ve had in a long time for a restaurant! Feels like you’re eating a home cooked meal! I raved about it to the owner! Great atmosphere too! Definitely would recommend anyone try this place you wont be disappointed! Make sure to get the fried chicken!

For dessert you gotta get the pecan pie, sooo good!

The food is incredible and it really speaks for itself. Super comfortable dining spot with the most welcoming staff. I only want to add that skipping the pecan pie would be a mistake. It’s the best!

My first visit was great. The two ladies working were super nice. I had to wait a bit which wasn’t a problem and their politeness made it easier to wait. My second time not so much. They were out of something I wanted which is fine but the person serving the food did not provide good service. I’m unsure if me having a quiet voice is what caused their demeanor to change or if it was something else but for that I’m not coming back.

Mac & cheese: watery and bland. No creaminess, no seasoning, no soul. That alone is enough to offend an entire lineage.
Yams: way too much cinnamon. Not warm-spiced overpowered. Dessert-adjacent in the worst way.
Wings: ordered 6, got 3. That’s not a mix-up, that’s somebody counting wrong and hoping you wouldn’t notice.
Freshness: this is what really took me out. The food did not taste fresh at all. Straight up gave reheated, 2-day-old leftovers. That dry-but-wet texture you only get from sitting in a pan too long. No snap, no warmth, no just-made energy.
This wasn’t soul food — it was microwaved memories.
Soul food is supposed to feel like love, care, and intention. This felt rushed, reheated, and careless.
Would I recommend it? No. Would I return? Absolutely not.
If you’re gonna charge soul-food prices, the food better be fresh, seasoned, and plentiful. Period.
