If there’s one small downside, it’s that some items can be a tad pricier than other local spots — but the convenience, flavors, and comfort-food goodness totally make up for it.
Overall: A reliable, feel-good stop for anyone craving iconic Hawai‘i flavors with friendly service and chill vibes .
Opting for a change of plans, I decided to explore the lunch offerings instead. I settled on a clubhouse sandwich paired with fries and Portuguese soup. This hearty combination promised to satisfy my appetite and provide a taste of the local flavors.

When my order arrived, I was delighted by the presentation and aroma of the food. The clubhouse sandwich was a towering masterpiece, featuring layers of roasted turkey, crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, juicy tomato, and creamy mayonnaise, all sandwiched between slices of toasted bread. The accompanying fries were golden and crispy, perfectly complementing the savory flavors of the sandwich.
The Portuguese soup, a local favorite known for its rich and flavorful broth, exceeded my expectations. Packed with tender chunks of meat, hearty vegetables, and fragrant spices, it was a comforting delight that warmed both body and soul.

We thought it was interesting that this spot had half of a quick dining area and a sit-down area. The cashiers were super duper friendly.
Saimin – This was inexpensive and quite filling! It had a good amount of noodles and the piping hot broth came separately. The fish cake and char siu were tasty. Since it seemed little, I added a chicken katsu. The cashier said she made sure to put it separately so the chicks stayed crispy.
Chicken katsu – My stand-alone katsu was around $5-6 but turning it into its own combo meal with rice and mac salad is the way to go. My friend got 3 pieces for $12. We expected a dense, greasy fried food but it was actually very light and thin! It was a lot better than I expected. Its accompanying sauce is more sour than other katsu places I’ve tried. We were dying for vegetables at this point so I ate all the cabbage underneath lol.
Korean fried chicken – This was delicious! The boneless pieces don’t come in medium-sized chunks. I liked their crunch.
Loco moco – This was hot, flavorful, and honestly tasted better than some other places I’ve tried. The egg was fried perfectly.
I wish I tried the oxtail soup but it’s pretty pricey. Zippy’s fulfilled our needs before our long boat trip!
