Feels like this place may have seen better days. Really wanted to try the crab dip with fresh pork rinds, but turns out they don’t seem to make those anymore. They were also out of baguettes so I ended up with some rye toast with my crab dip. Dip was fine, maybe a bit salty.

They were also out of pretty much every side, and I would guess they may have been out of other stuff too. Waitress was definitely friendly, but service was a little slow, and the decor is old (clean, but old).

Lovely view, but the menu needs some updating and maybe just a nice sprucing up overall.

Really wanted to like this place – what a disappointment! Upon arrival, it says wait to be seated, we were told to find our own spot. Cool! I ask the male server what the special was, and he did not know. Got up to go check myself- they were out calamari, macaroni salad by 1pm on Sunday?? Ok, cool! Ordered water and wine. My water had a bug in it! Yum!
It was our 1st sign to pay for the wine and leave.
Waiter finally came back for order. Boiled shrimps were soaking in bath water, hush puppies were the most exciting food on the platter, crab cake tasted very fishy, oh, boy!
Rock fish Reuben was ok! Potato salad tasted like pure relish! Ugh!
We had to ask for cutlery, cocktail sauce for shrimp, no one came to our table to check on our food or drinks. Our wine was served in a glass from General Ridge winery!!
Not worth the time or money!

This place is a must if you are looking for delicious, homemade food, beautiful scenery, and wonderful service!!! The food you get for the value is outstanding! The owner and staff are very attentive and pleasant. They have lots of delicious desserts to choose from such as Cakes, cheesecake, eclairs, and they’re all homemade. We drive all the way from Maryland to come here and well worth the drive!!

I REALLY wanted this place to be good!!! What a waste of a beautiful location. Located right on the Rappahannock River, Randolph’s has a stunning view overlooking the river. This is why we were so excited to stop here for a late lunch. I thought since they have a dock, they might actually catch their own fish or at least have it dropped off fresh. This was NOT the case! The crab soup had more seasoning and crab shells bits than actual crab. If you have to add so much seasoning, that means the crab you’re getting isn’t good. As soon as we had this soup, we knew right away the rest of the food was going to be bad. DO NOT get the catfish. They said it was fresh but it had an awful smell and taste to it. It was under seasoned and clearly not fresh by the way it tasted. It tasted like frozen meals you get at the store. The chicken tenders and Shrimp Po boy were OK. This place REALLY underperformed in the kitchen. Our waitress was really great however, she was very kind, attentive and respectful. The manager also was very nice and accommodating by taking the catfish sandwich off the check when she saw I couldn’t eat it. If you see this place, keep on driving, the view is great, but will not compensate for the horrid meal you’ll have here.

Went for lunch for first time on Sunday and most likely will not return…long wait for everything, mediocre food, lack of cleanliness and service, and very expensive.

I ordered a crab cake, french fries, and coleslaw. The crab cake was inedible, it was so greasy and overcooked, I honestly didnt even taste any crab meat. Fries were fine but not warm. Hush puppies were okay. Coleslaw was also fine.

Womens bathroom hadnt seen a cleaning in a long time (floor was sticky, toilet was dirty, and trash was full). The patio also had trash and items everywhere, we couldnt even open the door to go out and look at the water.

Server was overwhelmed (?) food took 30 minutes, we didnt get our drinks until we got our food, and by the time she asked how we were doing, we were asking for the bill.

Our bill was $56 for lunch. Fried crab cake, half cup of crab soup, and shrimp salad.

My wife and I have stopped in here twice and both times we had the crab soup and it was absolutely delicious. Most crab soups know OF crab but don’t actually have a lot of crabmeat in them. This soup had generous portions of crabmeat, a delicious rich, creamy broth and it was nicely seasoned. It left both of us feeling filled, just the soup. We had a toasted baguette with it, though, so there’s that. We have tried other dishes on earlier visits, but none of them were as good as the crab soup. It’s better than anything I’ve tasted in Richmond and vicinity. There’s a nice view of the Rappahannock out the river. We’ve gone there in midafternoon on weekends and there were few other customers. Service was excellent and the place has a nice, relaxed atmosphere at such times. Can’t speak for other times. But if you like good crab soup, as my wife and I do, you should probably give the place a shot.

Just had a magnificent late lunch here.
I had the butterfly fried shrimp, twice baked potatoes and asparagus.
The food was amazing!
My server was incredible-gave me enough attention-but did not pester me while enjoyed my meal.
The view, overlooking the river was wonderful and quite peaceful.
I will be back here!

This was once a restaurant that I would highly recommend to others. However, after last night’s experience I can no longer do that in good faith.

I had called ahead for reservations, as it was a holiday. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation. We waited for over 30 minutes before a waitress ever acknowledged us, or the other diners waiting to be seated. We were finally seated, when a new waitress on her first day of training, took our drink order. She let us know that one of the more experienced waitresses would be back to take our order. We waited, and waited no to avail. Multiple other tables were seated, and serviced in this time. No waitress wanted to take our order, which we heard being voiced nearby.

At last, the new waitress took our order, as her first time taking an order at all. Things were looking better. Then came even more of a wait. At this point, every single table in the restaurant, including those seated far after us, had been served. Appetizer, salads, even entrees, while we continued to wait.

When inquiring where our food was, there had been a “shuffle of tickets” by the manager. Our food had never been cooked. As time continued to pass, still no food. We told the waitress we were just going to leave, when we were assured that our food was being plated, and we could speak with the manager. 20 more minutes went by. Finally, food arrives which was very good. No manager to be seen. He visited every single table in the establishment to ask how their dinner was, except ours.

After having so many issues with our dinner, the least that could have happened was an apology. We never received one. The atmosphere was hostile, as the manager talked poorly to his staff, and seemed to blame them for the issues all evening.

We loved dining at Randolph’s, now we don’t see a returning visit any time in the near future.

Update to my review because today’s experience was the opposite. The owner waited on me today. As I sat down I brushed my hand across the table top. The owner took our drink order, then turned back around and asked me if I thought the place was dirty. I was embarrassed, and said no, it’s just something I do, or have always done. I do it at home, it’s just a quirk I have. The owner seemed offended and advised me that if I do think it’s dirty he could assure me the place was cleaned this morning. All our food was overcooked or burnt, I was never once asked if I needed anything, if anything was alright, if I needed a refill, and I was watched by the owner while I ate. The owner would only address the gentleman I had with me. I felt so uncomfortable I couldn’t eat.

I brought a table of 4 with me in early December and we dropped almost $300 here in one meal.

I missed our waitress today. She’s always so nice, we have pleasant chats, and we always make sure to help her clean up the table. There was no wait staff today.

I’m going to leave my comments from my review when I first tried this place, but I won’t be bringing anyone else here, I won’t be recommending it to anyone anymore, and I won’t be driving 40 min here because it was my new favorite place.

I do hope the owner sees this. He could learn a lot from his staff, because they made all prior experiences superb.

Just wow! We tried the calamari, the alligator bites, the mussels with bread, the broiled shrimp and scallops, the Mac n cheese, the hush puppies and the twice baked potato. Thank you for being the FIRST restaurant in VA I have been to who didn’t overwhelm the mussels with garlic.. they have their own flavor and they were delicious (and huge). Cooked just PERFECT and so CLEAN. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was the calamari, a tad overdone but the breading was gorgeous and they had good flavor. The hush puppies were also a tad dry but good flavor. Scallops were perfect, shrimp.. perfect.. the bread um heck to DIE FOR. The wait staff was awesome (made my day) and the prices VERY reasonable for the portions we received (very large). We CANNOT wait to come back and try something else. Truly a hidden gem.

As you approach, it looks like a run down building that feels closed. The parking lot is just a dirt, gravel lot. There’s a boat ramp beside the building and we couldn’t tell if the parking lot was for that or the restaurant. The landscaping is neglected. I know it’s winter, but there are still plants that survive winter and decor that can be used to make the entrance feel inviting. They even have a piece of cardboard covering one of the windows from the inside. If they want that window opaque, use decorative window film at least.

You enter at what almost feels like the back door. Crowded, cluttered. There was a beach decor, instead of a river decor. It felt like a restaurant you see on makeover shows where the owner hasn’t updated it in the last 20 years. Some people mistake old for dirty, but it wasn’t dirty-just older. There’s one dining area close to the kitchen and another dining area along windows that view the river. There is an old gazebo in the back, which I hope they utilize in warm weather for outdoor seating but I couldn’t tell for sure.

The dining area is very quiet. No music, no air blowing, just quiet and the guys in the kitchen yelling. We felt like we had to talk quietly. There was only one other table with customers when we arrived and a table arrived after us, but it took awhile to get our drinks and then to get our food. The waiter was extremely kind, no complaints there.

I wanted steamed shrimp but they ran out. They offered broiled or fried. I went with fried and my sides were a garden salad and macaroni salad. There was a seasoning in the macaroni salad I didn’t like so I didn’t eat it, but I did enjoy the garden salad. The hush puppies were overcooked but still decent tasting. The fried shrimp was fried perfectly. Not a thick batter, not over-fried. Tasted really good and that’s the reason we went there, I was craving shrimp. I recommend the fried shrimp if you end up visiting.

The view from the table was relaxing. Full view of the river. You’d think the traffic on the bridge would be distracting but it isn’t. The large windows allow you to see the entire river, shoreline to shoreline. I feel like the owners could capture the essence of this location better and make it a destination cafe or bar.

Likely will not return.
