The food was fine, the service just a bit slow but appropriate for HI time.
Da Bomb burger was the favorite at our table.
Place wasn’t crowded but still took awhile to get my order.
It’s on the beach and you can watch planes taking off from HNL on the runway that goes out into the ocean.
We came here with expectation of having a nice dinner, but ended up extremely disappointed. The service was mediocre at best, took 15 minutes to get seated in an empty restaurant. Everyone just kept walking by saying, “someone will be with you in a minute.” When we did get seated, it still took a while for someone to get to us. There were a couple tables that had people at them, I’d hate to see what happens if they have a full house.
Drinks were weak!
The worst part was the food, I got a burger, which was okay, but a burger is hard to mess up, it however, messed my stomach up for the rest of the weekend. My wife got the Alfredo ($19), with shrimp(+$7), and it was the absolute worst. The pasta was cut into 2” pieces? The sauce tastes like it was just cream, no flavor. And the shrimp was unimpressive. The “garlic bread” was a slice of white bread, that had grill marks but not toasted nor season. I’d be embarrassed to serve that to anyone.
Will definitely NEVER come back here. Even if someone invited me and offered to pay for my family’s entire meal.
Every time we’ve been to The Lanai, we’ve only had to wait less than 5 minutes before being seated. This time we waited 15 minutes and it wasn’t crowded at all. We had 2 separate waitresses walk by the host stand to state someone would be with us. We were a party of 3 and there were many empty tables outside near the bar.
Once seated, we ordered our drinks. Waiter came by within 5 minutes and placed our orders. Food was delicious as always. Poke especially fresh. Our water came by frequently and he did a fantastic job.
Overall, good but not great experience. The management needs to ensure someone checks the front to take care of those waiting to be seated. There are other restaurants but I want to support the base when I’m in town.
Oddly, the AI machine “Kayla” that took my call to make/confirm a reservation but did not actually make the reservation; fortunately, it was early and there were open tables!
My friend and I got a great table, because the place was darn near empty. On a Friday night! Back in the day, in 2006 to 2009, they had live music in the bar area. It would be packed in there.
Last night we ordered the loaded nachos eith kalua pork. It arrived cold, with the right amount of cheese and meat. But virtually no salsa. Also, no plates, utensils or napkins. Which arrived 10 minutes after we asked. By then the dish went from lukewarm to stone cold.
They have a very limited wine selection. The beer selection seems a little better.
You can’t beat the view of Hickam Harbor and the runway activity. Next time I will order something else and see if last night was just an off night for them.
