I am actually shocked about the good reviews at this Sonny’s. The quality, atmosphere, and cleanliness of this location compared to the one on US27 in Haines City is really bad. We were at this location at this morning when they opened (10:45 am). We ended up here as we didn’t want to drive to Mission BBQ in Lakeland and I really wanted corn nuggets. Immediately upon walking in the restaurant noticed a “smell”. My husband noticed it to. It was like a moldy smell when you have a room or building closed for a while. We really wanted those corn nuggets though. We were seated immediately. Seating was still COVID safe which was nice. We ordered and then started noticing some things. The ceiling tiles were moldy and showed leaks. The booth we were in had food in the wall and in the glass. Our food came out really fast. We were discussing whether to stay or leave but since food was already out we stayed. On the way out we stopped in the bathroom. I am not sure how a bathroom is this messy. when there is no one in the place. Again all these pictures were about 15 minutes after opening. I am actually surprised there is not some health violations at this location. Overall the food was okay, nothing special and lots of other, better BBQ out there. The ONLY reason this is not 1 star is our waiter was super nice and friendly. Honestly we won’t go back to this location.

Austin greeted and sat us immediately and we had food in 10 minutes. He was kind. Food was awesome and it was our 1st visit ever to Sonny’s. We went around 2pm ish. Would try again. We had the $6.99 original pork big deal they have on Wednesday’s in May

Let me start by saying that the waitress was nice. This review is about the establishment and not her service, because she was just fine.
We started with the fried pickles that were fried in last month’s grease. They were drowning in grease to the point that they dripped when you picked one up.
We ordered our food, which took entirely too long to get to us. When it did, she apologized because she was aware that it had, and it wasn’t even hot. My wife’s food was bleak and had a dollop of coleslaw on it. My pulled pork was chunked with sauce on it. I was really confused. They were not very busy and there were plenty of staff.
The place seemed like it was worse for wear in the smoker section. As if they were just winging it.
I was hoping that because it was a stand alone building and seemed established that it would have excellent food. I even told my wife I was excited going inside. We both left very dissatisfied and bummed.
They also didn’t have any crayons. They had placemats for children with sections for coloring but no crayons. The nice waitress was able to find a single crayon for my daughter.
I hope that they are able to get it together as this seemed like an issue of recent decline rather than the normal.

Great food, AWESOME PLACE!! Staff is very friendly and service is fast. Servers make sure you have everything you need. We used the take out option and everything was great. Restaurant was clean. And plenty of parking. This place is conveniently located between Winter Haven and Aburndale.

Called at 1130am for a.party of 13 at 5pm showed up at 445 and was told they just sat 15 and had no notes or expectation for us. They made no attempt to try to accommodate out side being told to wait.on the party of 15 to leave. We were ok with just being in the same area and its ok if tables were not together. After the hostess responded rudely to offering to that suggestion we opted to leave.

The food was awesome! And, the serving portions were large, even on the lunch menu! A definite must-do for barbecue!!

I just ate there about 30 minutes ago. As always the food was good but it was literally outshined by the service. In a post covid-19 world when you looking for some place to go I recommend Sonny’s. They are taking every opportunity to keep you safe. Plus My waitress was extraordinarily helpful and courteous. As a 50 year old man who has traveled across the country and internationally my waitress was in the top 5% of all servers I’ve ever had.

It seems like every time our office gets food from the recker highway location there is always something wrong. This time it is the size of the egg rolls. Why am I still paying $8 for a third of the size that they were 2 months ago. I think we will not be ordering from this place for a long time.
