Staff are fri sly and good about refilling meats. There are several different broth options, which can be exchanged. There’s a good selection of other items: seafood, tofu, veggies.
My personal favorite was the match and I’ve ice cream.
Now for the food: everything was absolutely delicious. The seafood was fresh, the meats were sliced paper-thin, and we tried each option just to be sure—every single one was a hit.
If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to have trays for the serving tongs for the buffet. I must commend this restaurant for being so clean but I felt that the tongs resting on the buffet bar was a bit unsanitary. A small change, but it would make things feel even cleaner and professional.
The atmosphere was perfect for a fun date night, but also spacious enough that you could easily host a 25-person birthday dinner comfortably.
The managers were attentive throughout our meal—maybe because I was taking so many photos—but either way, it made us feel welcomed and appreciated. The customer service here is truly exceptional.
Dinner for two came out to about $100 with tip, and we left feeling like it was worth every dollar.
Everything comes fresh to the table, and you can customize your broth to match your taste from mild and comforting to spicy and bold.
The seafood was fresh, the meat was thinly sliced for quick cooking, and the service was fast even though the restaurant was busy.
Worth it for the variety and freshness.
Not sure what the issue was with the meat selections on our visit. But they only had #5 & #11 available at open for lunch. The whole menu of what your paying for, wasn’t even able to be ordered
The service was hit or miss waiting. Multiple requests for refills on our soup or drinks.
But the flavor of the Tom Tom was delicious. The freshness of the ingredients was spot on. Everything came out delicious.
I myself am not a fan of miso, but even that base was delicious.
I’m wondering if the dinner service is different from the lunch. So will have to update this review on my next visit. Hopefully allowing the full meat menu.
From the pictures / videos, left to right. They have a dessert island (rather small selection).
The center island – main course, sides, seafood selections, veggies, noodles, etc.
A sauce island – a variety of different sauces to make your own. From sweet to spicy to pay with your soup / Hot Pot selections.
I definitely think it’s worth a visit to at least try the experience and flavors. Just be prepared during rush hours for a bit of noise here due to the crowd it brings in.
If the price was adjusted due to their lack of meat selections or menu full available. This would have been an easy 3-4 review for me.
Was there something you think I missed I should try?
What was your favorite?
Until next time…
Houston, you’ve spoiled me! My visit to Shabu Zone was a revelation in the world of hot pot. Coming from Massachusetts, where my experiences have been more limited, stepping into this restaurant was like entering a different dimension of culinary delight. Shabu Zone is impressively larger, noticeably cleaner, and sports a sleek, modern vibe that immediately sets it apart. But the real jaw-dropper? The absolutely huge selection of options and ingredients – a variety I genuinely didn’t know was even possible with hot pot!
Each table is thoughtfully equipped with individual heaters for your personal bubbling cauldron of soup, which is a fantastic touch. I loved that you could customize your broth, even opting for a split pot to try multiple flavors. I went with a dynamic duo: half spicy #2, which packed a satisfying kick, and half Tom Yum, offering that classic tangy and aromatic zest. Being able to switch things up or even mix them a bit as I went was part of the fun.
Then there’s the dipping sauce station – a veritable playground for flavor enthusiasts! With over ten options, plus all the components to concoct your own signature blend, it was a delight. I armed myself with three different concoctions and had a blast rotating them, each one adding a delicious new dimension to every bite.
A completely new and wonderful concept for me was the array of dumplings and wontons available. It makes perfect sense, like enjoying soup dumplings, but here you cook them fresh in your chosen broth! There were so many varieties, almost like having a dedicated appetizer course before diving into the main event. I confess, I must have made at least three trips back for more dumplings – at the beginning, middle, and even towards the end of my meal, ha!
Once you’re ready to truly assemble your feast, an unlimited bounty of fresh veggies, quality meats, and gleaming seafood awaits. The “all unlimited” aspect is incredible! We particularly savored the rich marbling of the Wagyu beef and the tender Rib Eye selections – absolute must-tries for any carnivore. A friendly tip: pace yourself with the meat orders. To prevent food waste (which incurs an extra charge), it’s best to order what you can enjoy in the moment.
The seafood selection was a spectacle in itself. I indulged in an amazing variety: tender mini octopus, plump scallops, impressively large prawns, sweet shrimp, fresh clams, intriguing snails, delicate fish fillets, bouncy fish balls, and so much more. Each item was fresh and added another layer to my ever-evolving hot pot creation.
To cap off this massive and satisfying meal, Shabu Zone offers a selection of ice cream and various Asian desserts – a sweet, cooling counterpoint to the savory feast.
Beyond the incredible food, the service was noteworthy. The servers were genuinely friendly and incredibly attentive, circulating every few minutes to clear plates, replenish our broth, or offer more napkins (and trust me, you’ll need plenty!). Their helpfulness added to the seamless experience.
A couple of lighthearted tips from our adventure: try not to overfill your pot with ingredients like one of our enthusiastic guests did, haha – it can get a bit chaotic! Also, resist the urge to cook everything at once. This isn’t Vietnamese pho where everything simmers together long-term. For the best texture and taste, cook your items fresh, just what you can eat in the next few bites, to avoid them getting chewy or tough.
The family-style, interactive nature of Shabu Zone made for an unforgettable meal. It’s an experience that’s as much about the shared enjoyment and culinary discovery as it is about the delicious food itself. I left feeling so wonderfully full and happy, I joked I needed to be rolled out of there! If you’re in Houston and looking for a top-tier, modern hot pot experience with endless choices, Shabu Zone is
