But it is easy to forget that the #1) Italian White Tablecloth dining room restaurant and #2) the lounge/bar restaurant with live dance music Fri-Sat nights are great “date night” or “friends night out” dinner experiences too.
The “Thursday Night Happy Hour” dinner specials change but, $20 “The Prime Rib” night with roasted potatoes, rice pilaf & wonderful dessert cakes for a small extra charge & the perfect “treat yourself & friend” night to catch up together in a dress casual environment.
The Casa Mia group owns 3 places (Berlin, Newington & Rocky Hill) and all are consistent in making a good burger, great steak, tasty pasta dishes, & seafood (shrimp, fish, scallops) options & great appetizers from fried calimari mozzarella cheese, wings & specials like stuffed mushrooms.
It is easy to forget the “classic restaurants” because they have been so good for so long; they are not in the “foodie news.”
But if I have 4 friends or family in town, who want a let’s catch up during the holidays; Casa Mia at The Hawthorn is in my “Top List” because everyone will find something they like on the menu.
Easy 1st floor access for older parents with mobility issues or walker. Clean bathrooms. Lots of free parking for over 100 cars.
Price was very affordable,.They could have charged more and I’d still go!
Very nice. I heard they serve lunch? A go -to again!
Ordered our food and had a drink. Tasty bread board tided us over for a bit, but after 45 minutes we inquired and were told the food would be out shortly. Never asked if we wanted a second drink, and finally an hour after ordering the food came. I cut into my lasagna to find the center was frozen. Needless to say we were out of there. The server and manager were very apologetic, and did not take my card for payment, but at that point it didn’t mean much.
Will not be going back.
On A Positive Note: Dined for dinner today with a good friend. The band was great.
While the food was delicious, the service SUCkED!!! The plate was far too big for the salmon**,potatoes and veggies. The sever did not check in with us after we received our food. We had to beg for a check. ♀️ It took 20 minutes to get the check ( no exaggeration, as I timed it.) To finish things off with a bad touch- we were not offered dessert. ♀️
The Verdict: The food was tasty, the plate too large for the amount of food for my order, salmon however, based on the poor service, I will skip this place in the future.
A Daily Diner
For example, Thanksgiving …. their buffet is unbelievable….nobody better. Absolutely nobody better. I recommend you go there. You can’t go wrong. The food is the so tasty and its cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is great for families and the waitstaff is absolutely the best as well. I can’t say enough good things as you can tell. I’ve been going there for many years. You can’t go wrong. I spoke with lori, she made reservations for me and was so kind.My dad is ninety one years old.Is everything in the world to me!!!
And she made sure she took care of me and my father ..By the way we are both senior citizens and we are both air force.Vets,my is a korean war vet whom i am very proud of….thank you, lori for all your efforts,.
My biggest issue was the pricing. We were told the event would be charged at lunch pricing, but when the bill arrived it reflected dinner pricing—an additional $10 per person—plus another $2 per person because it was a Friday. On top of that, there was a 20% service charge that was not disclosed anywhere in the holiday menu materials and was apparently not a gratuity. After tipping the single waitress who served our group of 21, the total cost ended up about 30% higher than expected.
Edit: Review updated after discussing with event manager – all issues were rectified in a timely manner. Will be happy to go back and eat there again!
From the moment we arrived, the staff—Valerie, Pascualino, and Laurie—made us feel incredibly welcome. They were warm, friendly, energetic, and impressively attentive to every detail throughout the evening. Their hospitality added so much to the overall experience, and we’re deeply grateful.
The food was served family style, and every dish was a hit. The charcuterie appetizer was delicious and beautifully presented. The pasta dishes were absolutely marvelous—rich in flavor and perfectly cooked. Both the steak and chicken were cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavor. The fresh salad was light and crisp, and the vegetables were seasoned wonderfully and had just the right amount of crunch.
Compliments to the chef and the entire kitchen team—everything was prepared with care and love. We felt so well taken care of and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the evening.
Highly recommend Casa Mia for any gathering—big or small. We left full, happy, and grateful!
Thank you
Iralis ❤️
Got here 15 minutes prior to our reservations. 6:30 on a Saturday evening. We were seated promptly. That’s because there was only 4 tables of people. Should have been my signal to leave….
Our young waiter was nice, but after we ordered we never saw him again. However another waitress come over and asked if we wanted more water. We both said yes. After 10 minutes, I walked over to the waitress station, grabbed a pitcher, and went back and filled our glasses myself.
The waitress came back over and apologized, we stated that it’s ok, no big deal. She continued to apologize and awkwardly asked repeatedly if she had done something else wrong. She wasn’t even our waitress! No, just let us eat!
The food: best described as sun-par wedding food. My filet mignon was over cooked, dry, and flavorless. Served with a sauce that tased like brown dishwater. Had a thick consistency like it was over mixed with cornstarch. I never received my side of Brussels sprouts.
Wife’s chicken wasn’t awful, but the chicken had the texture that it was frozen and not fresh.
Overall, we won’t be back. So much potential. When we left, there were only 5 tables of guests. Say a lot at 8pm on a Saturday evening.
