Super good food, very welcoming environment. The waitress was so feisty, loved her lol. Food was so good . My omelette was everything! I’d say to serve with a salsa, but that’s just a preference! I wasn’t a fan of the gravy, but my friends liked it.

Bill Smith’s …. “Sit Anywhere” the sign says outside “But don’t expect good service” is what it should also say.
Pictured is my hot roast beef sandwich… dry, tired tough roast beef, packaged brown gravy, generic white bread and commercial frozen fries. This is home cooking?
They don’t even offer honey mustard dressing for salads which is honey, mustard and mayo .. staples in any home kitchen. But they’re too lazy to make it and too cheap to buy it pre-made.
This place is way over hyped.

Used to love the McKinney location. Went for my second time to the new location during the ice storm, excited to eat a nice home made meal with my kids. Got the same waitress as before. I’m guessing she’s the one others complained about named Candy…who is the owner! lol blew my mind to read that. Candy, this restaurant doesn’t have a chance with you treating customers like crap. She blames everything on other people, is extremely rude and has left our food in the window to get cold both times. The coffee is dirty water. Food was not great. I only enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. And I literally almost got up to serve myself multiple times. Thank God another woman came out from the kitchen to help. She was so sweet and got everything we needed. Hire more good staff and stop running off your customers. I will never return here and that makes me sad.

Returning to Bill Smith’s Cafe after its relocation to downtown Van Alstyne was like reuniting with an old friend. Though it’s been years since I last visited the original location in McKinney, stepping into the new space felt both familiar and exciting. The transformation is remarkable; the cramped quarters of the old cafe have been replaced by a spacious, inviting environment with stunning brick walls and tall ceilings. Some nostalgic touches, like the deer and buffalo mounts, have made the move as well, adding to the charm of the new spot.
But of course, the real star of the show remains the food, and I’m pleased to report that it’s just as exceptional as ever. The aroma that greeted me as I entered instantly transported me back to my previous visits. The pancakes and biscuits and gravy, staples of my past experiences, were just as delectable as I remembered. Opting for the Papa Smith’s special, I was delighted when the waitress kindly offered to serve me both a pancake and French toast, alleviating my indecision. My dad thoroughly enjoyed his Belgian waffle as well.
Despite the slightly longer drive from McKinney, the experience at Bill Smith’s Cafe is worth every mile. The fact that it’s reopened in a new location only adds to its allure, offering a fresh start while still maintaining the essence of what made it beloved in the first place. I’m thrilled to have this culinary gem back in my rotation, and I look forward to many more satisfying meals at this cherished establishment.

The breakfast qt Bill Smiths is a must-visit! The fresh-made biscuits and pancakes are outstanding, and the service is friendly and efficient. If you’re looking for a delicious, no-frills breakfast in a cozy, local spot, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Our food was good and our waitress was very sweet! However, I have to give this place a one star due to poor management. We entered the restaurant to see the owner, an older woman with short hair. Right away she was very rude to us and told us to “just sit down somewhere in the third row.” She made absolutely no effort to be friendly to her customers who are quite literally keeping her in business. As the time went on, we noticed that she was being incredibly rude to her employees and yelling at them and ordering them around. Mind you, I wouldn’t even talk to my dog the way she was talking to her employees. We did confirm that she was the owner and were baffled that any type of business owner would treat employees that are actively working hard to make her more money.
This was such a shame because overall, the waitress was very sweet and the food was okay for a small cafe. I would not recommend eating here and supporting someone who can be so terrible to the people working for her. If you value kindness at all, please do not support this woman.

I grew up going to Bill Smith’s in McKinney, and I’m so glad they’ve opened up a location in Van Alstyne. The environment is so much fun. You can always count on Bill Smith’s to have great service and delicious, affordable food (with huge portions!!).

The tables were a mess. We we sat down and ordered before she cleaned up the mess on the table. The food sucked. My hashbrowns were more like mashed potatoes with a crispy outer layer absolutely disgusting in the amount of butter I had on my toast would probably give me a medical condition my coffee tasted like water mixed with chewable Tylenol. It tasted absolutely disgusting. and people were yelling across the restaurant The only good thing I ate was the biscuits and gravy at least that was edible It Took forever for my food to come the omelettes suck the egg on the outside of it is just like Air if I put the egg Next to piece of paper side-by-side The paper would probably be bigger. One of my family members omelettes had raw egg in it this place absolutely sucks you should not come here
