Great find. Awesome diner food plus extras. Food was great service was awesome the atmosphere was very good very clean everybody very nice food came out hot. Not too quickly but didn’t have to wait long.
It has been there for a long time really love the front side gives an old feeling to it. We’ll be going there again if in the area and is it a must stop in the area if you’re hungry.

Delicious food, great vibe, attentive service. We got the Country Fried Steak breakfast and the House Special French Toast. Both meals were absolutely delicious and filling. Thank you for a great brunch!

Sugar Bowl Restaurant is the typical diner type atmosphere right on Miner St snd in walking distance to the Des Plaines Theater. Planned on eating there before going to the afternoon show at the theater. Noticed there was a sign on the window restrooms for customers only so they must have had theater overflow traffic in the past. I parked in the handicap spot right on the corner, but there is a 90 min limit sign. The food was real good – all diner choices, and the best part was the constant coffee refills! They were constantly coming by the table to fill my cup without having to ask. Moved my car after brunch and was lucky to find another handicap spot in front of the theater.

Busia, DziaDzia, Gerald and I had lunch at this cool family restaurant with a vintage flair. This unique place gives quality freshness and hospitality in Des Plaines. I noticed after we sat down the place got busy.
Busia mentioned Blintzes which is an entree I didn’t eat yet. Next time I’m going to have to try it, I just couldn’t steer myself away from a good Benedict. I had to apologize to the family and the waitress because I couldn’t decide what to eat. Jaja We couldn’t finish the delicious food so we were able to bring back leftovers.
Breakfast can really be served in all types of ways. Thank you to the wonderful staff of Sugar Bowl. It was a pleasure to eat good food, good conversation with DziaDzia and Busia about Sugar Bowl restaurant, homemade candy, and family. ❤️

Went here a couple of times – the last time was last Sunday, so this review is a tad late, but oh well! Food was delicious, better than expected coffee drinks, and our server, Mario, was great. The retro feel is a welcome addition to a morning brunch!

I visited sugar bowl yesterday with a friend of mine for the first time. We had a late breakfast and I have to say everything was spot-on. It is a great place the food the atmosphere and the service was what you would expect from a restaurant that started in 1921. If you are in a Des plaines downtown area please stop in at sugar bowl and check them out I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! This restaurant has the quality of food that you are looking for! 2

Lived in this area for TOO LONG NOT to have come here. This was amazing. Came in on a Saturday morning and was greeting by a very nice person right up front and sat us at a new cleaned table. Came out immediately before we sat down with Rico who brought waters, drinks, and tea was like a service. Full box and a Julius Meini set. We got the skillet (10/10) amazing with the perfect perfect perfect pancakes on the side. This was super filling and simply great. I personally got the Biscuits and Gravy with Eggs (an absolute MUST!) and the hash browns were more of a home style and super crispy and fresh. Absolutely 10/10 from the atmosphere (super relaxed and cozy) to the perfect customer service from everyone all around, to the food which was spot-on. Will be back, 100%. Thank you!

Great little restaurant with good breakfast and excellent homemade soups! The only thing I don’t like about it is they charge you a fee for using your Debit/Credit Card. Also, a little pricy, but great food!

Wow! What a find!! This place is outstanding!!! First, let me start with the food…outstanding and super fresh! You can have breakfast items or lunch items. I had the tuna melt. Best tuna melt I have ever had! Crunchy toasted bread, great tuna salad mix with crunchy celery, cheese. It came with fries. Super fresh, hot, crunchy fries. THEN…it came with soup as well! Wow! The soup choices that day were chicken noodle or potato. I had chicken noodle, my husband had potato…both outstanding!!!
The soup was so good we ordered more to take home!
The service….super friendly and a clearly efficient team!
The environment….its the original diner. With diners slowly disappearing….this is a real gem that all should go to!
Thank you Sugar Bowl….you have new customers and we will be back often!!!!

First time I’ve ever tried poached eggs and it was runny yoke goodness. I would definitely return here!
