At our Gardendale, AL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Captain D’s in Gardendale AL. I placed an online order 15 minutes before arriving, but when I walked in, no one acknowledged me. The person who was supposed to be at the register was outside smoking and listening to music, while the cook was sitting in the lobby with headphones in, focused on his phone. I stood there for about 10 minutes before I had to speak up just to be noticed.
The level of customer service here is unacceptable. Employees ignored me, made me feel like I was an inconvenience, and showed no professionalism at all. To make matters worse, my food wasn’t even ready—they only started cooking it after I arrived, and I had to wait another 20 minutes.
This business is poorly managed, and it shows in how the staff behave and treat paying customers. If ownership cares about the success of this place, major changes need to happen in both management and employee training. Right now, it feels like the employees don’t care at all. Truly disappointing and embarrassing for a business.

Every thing was as it should be just know this is not a fine dining experience. this store was clean and staff was doing a great job, I just miss the long time gone way they used to do the fish! Also wish they would bring back the condiment pumps! i’ve been eating at Captain D’s for over 45 years!

Captain D’s usually provides a great dining experience that is worth the distance traveled. However, on a recent visit, as we approached the register, they unexpectedly closed early, leaving us disappointed and without an explanation. While I understand that unforeseen circumstances can occur, the lack of communication regarding the closure led me to speculate about the potential reasons behind it. Unfortunately, this incident aligns with some recent negative reviews highlighting issues with management and customer service. Despite this setback, I am willing to give Captain D’s another chance in the future, hoping for a better experience on our next visit, perhaps in a few months’ time.

Our food was cold and gross. The only thing half way decent was the shrimp. Green beans and watery macaroni was cold. My Mother just pushed her plate to the side.
Our food was brought to the table by someone with dark tinted, furry glasses…
that same person went on to wipe tables by knocking it into the floor. Probably explains why the floor was so dirty. Food everywhere.

I use the drive-thru and very rarely dine-in. The food is always excellent, but the service is somewhat slow. Also, I’m usually ordering for more than one person, and 9/10 times at least one of the meals is wrong. I would be happy to give this location 5/5 stars if these issues showed improvement. I enjoy this restaurant, and I do recommend it. Hopefully, they will improve the quality of the experience to match the quality of the food.

Stopped in after a basketball game down at Tabernacle Christian. It was a Thursday night, kinda slow night for them. The food was great, service was too. Person that took our order was very nice. They brought our food to use, which was nice! Good food for a drive home!

Went in door was open noone inside. Glad i was not a robber. When i was walking out the manager was coming in i assume with her boyfriend she said they were getting a late start. Not too good for the owner of this store. This is friday 2/23/24 at 1045 am
