At our Richmond, VA location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

The worst food I’ve eaten in awhile. I payed 16 dollars for almost unedible chicken and fish.. the chicken was so hard its like they microwaved it to heat it up. The fish was kinda ok but had a different taste. The fries was so old I could write with them.. the coleslaw was the only good thing about it.. and the service wasn’t good either. Just young kids who spoke Spanish and just was like they didn’t want to be there.. won’t be back.

Went in last week for the first time..every worker was class A+ customer service class A+ cleanest place I have seen in a long time for quick foods . The food has no taste I order the fish sandwich what I had taste for it was loaded looked great . No flavor at all and as everyone if my 35k followers know I hate food not made to order nor like warm well my sandwich and fries were not made to order they were less than like warm .. I should have asked for another since I sat in and ate but I was starving .. sa sad because it was a nice quiet clean and enjoyable place but I went for not only cleanliness but for hot food! Not sure if I will return since it has no flavor to me. We shall see. It’s a great place for seniors it appears seems like a safe area. Menu has many nice items and the place was crowded or shall I say busy.. which means alot .. it’s a maybe for me .

Worse experience tonight. Will not return. After $40 worth of food got home and the hush puppies were so burnt that the onions were black. The fish on the fish sandwich was tough and had wilted brown lettuce on it. And they no longer have the spicy fish. FRED as he called himself being the manager had the audacity to write my license plate down and I’m not even the one that entered his facility. My husband was the one had to deal with this man. Talking about we have to wait 30 minutes so he can contact corporate. WE RETURNED ALL THE FOOD. So run our money back. After the go around my husband did receive the refund.NEVER AGAIN!

Great location. It’s Captain D’s but hey they do it right! You can tell the food prep, cleanliness is quality and staff is super attentive and good location. Been to some but good ones and this location is tops.

It’s been several months since we purchased Captain D’s so we went again. To my disappointment they have taken out the drive-thru. Went inside to Order, we ordered the family 10 piece fish with fries and green beans with add on of 2 orders of shrimp. Fish was good but fries we’re not cooked the green beans were absolutely ice cold, they were in a styrofoam container and I only live a mile and a half away so there’s no way that they could have gotten cold by the time I left there and got home they were absolutely cold but all in all the fish was good the hush puppies are good and the shrimp was good but it was a very disappointing experience this time around. So unfortunately I have to take it back down to two stars.

I’m unhappy with my fish today, I noticed the batter isn’t the same it was beer batter,now it’s a thicker breading.. please don’t mess up a perfect tasting thing and mess it up.. captain D’s is the only place that hasn’t changed anything, now I’m very sad.

The food was okay. Went inside and the dining area was open to the public. Wasn’t very many people in the line. The butterfly shrimp were fairly small, French fries do not get seasoned, the batter dipped fish was juicy, lobster bites were saltier than preferred, and hush puppies were a little dry, the full size corn was juicy. The cocktail sauce tastes disgusting and tartar sauce was alright. THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME TRYING CAPTIN D’S. The people working the counter were really nice as well. They should update their website so we can order online and pick it up at the restaurant. Would make it sooooo much easier. Tried ordering it on the phone but the person never came back on the line. Took some pictures of the menu. For my first time eating here, overall I’ll give it a rating of -B.

Edited to add: I finally went to the website requested, but the site comes up as fishy on my phone. Even with a VPN running, my phone says nope, don’t trust it. Screenshots included in the review. I’m not the most tech savvy, so the issue could be on me.
Employees were nice and friendly. I waited quite awhile for my food, but it was during prime lunchtime. My real issue is the quality of the food. The chicken looked, and more importantly, tasted like Sheetz food. Which isn’t bad, but not what I expected or paid for. The fries were meh, at best. Hush puppies were greasy, more so than ones I’ve previously had. I ate 2 tiny pieces of chicken, a few fries, 2 hush puppies, and the rest is likely going in the trash. I got the 4 piece chicken meal so me and my 2 kids could share it, but that didn’t work out. Would have rated lower based on quality, but the employees were so nice, I can’t do that to them. Can’t say I will return, more likely that I won’t.
