I was greeted as soon as I walked in by the hostess and the Sushi chefs. I was able to choose which table I wanted to sit without any problem. Leanna was my server and she was very friendly, down-to-earth, attentive, and responsive to any requests.
My order was Miso Soup, a Philadelphia Roll, a Spicy Yellowtail Roll, and some Plum Wine to compliment the food. The Miso Soup was the perfect temperature, especially for a cold night. The sushi rolls were perfect size and had plenty of fish inside of them, not small at all, nor did they skimp on the amount of fresh fish inside, and as fresh as they looked, they tasted even fresher(!). Compliments to the Sushi Chef for his art of making the rolls so good, filled just right, perfect amount of flavor and they did not fall apart or unravel at all. This leads me to believe the rest of the items on the menu would be just as good or better. Next time I’ll have to try one of the specialty rolls.
If you are looking for a great sushi restaurant in Battle Creek, MI, look no further, as this place is an undoubtedly great choice that would not be regretted!
I ordered the Spicy Salmon Hand Roll thinking it was the Spicy Salmon Roll (which is in the Hand Roll section) – same price.
I left and went home and didn’t realize I got the Spicy Salmon Hand Roll (a wrapper cone with the salmon inside; doesn’t have rice).
Called thinking they had made a mistake and explained to the owner who then comped me.
The owner calls back and then explains that because it was my fault they wouldn’t comp me.
I called again after reviewing their online menu to confirm and explain how it was confusing and was offered to be comped after I pointed out a price difference.
I declined as I probably won’t be back. Just felt like the manager/owner could have at least sympathized with having to drive 20 minutes there/back again ♂️
The veggies in the salad have seen better days, you get that over night (or two) chilled feel from the bite, way too much ginger salad dressing. The fried items were underwhelming, everything was doubled fried, soggy spring roll, hard shrimp tempera, the crab rangoon was ok, on point. The dumplings were deep fried, not pan fried. The bento doesn’t come with rice as it normally does, it comes with more sushi rolls to make up for it. No vinegar in the rice, down point. The only praise I can give is the beef teriyaki, the sauce was normal, but the beef was done to the right temp and tender. It is a neighbor joint for sure with great friendly service.
Every single sushi roll I’ve tried on the menu is always surprisingly even better than the last one. All their ingredients are super fresh, and the restaurant and bathrooms are always nice and clean. Service is fast, and the staff always go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, so you always have a pleasant experience.
Service is always top-notch (my husband and I especially love sitting at the bar and chatting with the sushi master chefs).
This year, on my husband’s birthday, even though it was closing time, the staff was ultra accommodating, sang happy birthday to him, and gave him a dessert on the house.
Hands down, it’s one of my top favourite restaurants EVER. We go there regularly and more than once per month, and we’ve never been disappointed.
FYI, if you’re celebrating a special occasion, they do not have any problem with people bringing balloons, party favors, or a cake. Also, their warm sake is the best I’ve had (compared to other sushi restaurants), and it’s perfect for cold nights.
